I use the basses for those notes on the run in the first bar of the B part.

Apparently Nick Barber once demonstrated this technique on that same passage in a melodeon players workshop he was running. It caused great hilarity, but it's actually a good idea and works well if you don't have the notes on the RH.

I'm trying to persuade Tom Sennett (other box play in Pig Dyke Molly) to do the same in the Savage Hornpipe where he has the same problem with a low C natural. He thinks it's funny too...


I try to use this technique for the first few bars of The Charming Maid, but it always goes too fast!

John Kirkpatrick does it on a 1-row on the Brass Monkey recording.

Er, I'll try and keep it a bit slower next time  ;)

Yeah, I was listening to that the other day. I tried it on my box, but I think only dogs could hear most of the tune. One for the fiddle, methinks.  ;)
