The first and fifth notes of a scale eg  G and D,  in D and A,  F and C, etc

Late, as usual but surprised that no one has mentioned that the rock guitarists use what they refer to as 'Power Chords', which are the first and fifth. They, like the jazzers, are also fond of the 'Devil's Interval', frowned on for a long time in church music.

Just to be awkward, doesn't the taping of thirds in the bass chest, leaving just the first and fifth, mean that from a previous definition in this thread, you no longer play chords?  ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
