This is a first for me - first video of me playing, first one put on the internet, first ThOTM entry.  The performance doesn't compare to some of the others (being particularly impressed with GbH's), but it's a rendition of Cat Stevens' Moonshadow.

Thank you all for the positive comments - I'll put some more on YouTube as soon as I find the charger for my camera battery.  It was around here somewhere...

This July, melnet passed me by for a wide variety of reasons.
But this theme is brilliant and deserves to live on.
special thanks to Sandy for reminding me about the Velvet Underground and GbH for Kasabian.

well....I couldn't do any of the tunes I wanted properly...probably the reason why they aren't played on melodeon.
Here is 'Champagne charlie' instead

I was looking through the tunebooks in the library why has all pop music got tonnes of sharpes n flats in it? the only tunes I could find in C,G or D were ones I'd never heard of.

Yep! I'm surprised no one took a shot at "Eleanor Rigby" (yet!) - that fits very nicely on a melodeon, and sounds quite nice in waltz time...

i was trying to resist the obvious beatles tunes. But if you insist I'll give it a go. ;)

A lot of them are simple tunes when transposed though.

Two key reasons I think. First, where there's a singer, the tune will be played in the key that's optomised for that singer's voice. And where there's brass, there's muck, the music may be in brass-friendly keys (many flats).

Guitars like playing in sharps (:) Brass instruments like playing in flats.

For pop music, it'll be the singer's best key.
Professional session players are paid good money to play perfectly in whatever key the arranger wants.

That was really smooth and nice. Somehow caught the music hall feel too. Keep up the good work!

Beatles stuff? I used to do Maxwell Silver Hammer which plays nicely. Lennor/McCartney used 6th chords a lot which generally translate to a couple of notes from one row and one from the other on our instrument. Great fun exploring.

Thanks. It does sound like the melodeon has been at the champagne doesn't it? lol!
Was inspired by this at Blists Hill the other year.
