Another one. with Hohner vienna 1-row

Don
Nicely played Don! The video threw me for a minute or two, with the mirror-image 'Hohner' lettering, but then I realised this is a reversed image video of you playing the box left-handed and upside down!

Nice one Don, seems to be a popular tune to mess with....as in my Melodeon Key Change vid   ;)

Now this is me playing :eep: and mum calling...I only got one 'practice' with 'the band' and about 2 weeks practice. Found it very scary. I was waiting for someone to throw rotten tomatoes....but instead just got compliments. (Couldn't they hear all the mistakes I could??)

The recording device was right next to me. Hence why you could hear me loud.

That was really very well done indeed Sarah. Congratulations! It's scary playing for a ceilidh for the first time!
This is why it is good:
1. You kept to a good, steady, danceable tempo just about all the time. On the couple of occasions where the speed rocked slightly, you were able to recover and get back to the proper tempo. Well done!

2. Where you made the odd mistake, you didn't let it spook you; instead you just let it go and carried on from where the music had got to. Again, well done!

Perhaps you have now realised that when people are dancing, they are much too busy trying to remember what to do next and what their feet are doing to give a second thought to what the band is playing. If you can keep a steady tempo going (regardless of the notes), that's 90% of the job done.

The only thing you could significantly improve is your introduction. It needs to be more confident and a bit longer. Common practice in English ceilidhs is to play a 4-bar intro, perhaps the last four bars of the B-music in this case. Then it's much more obvious to the dancers when to actually start.

I'll say it again. Well done!  (:)

Sarah, that was really great :-* somewhere in the middle you
could feel it start to groove and that is so special for the player.
Felt good didn't!

I'm at work and can't listen to the clip yet, but I'll happily amplify Steve's comment about introductions. I had to work hard and actually practice introductions because they are difficult to get right. Like recovering from mistakes, it's one of the secret skills that makes playing for dancing an art form in itself.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

On the subject of intros. I do usually do an intro on that tune. But got told 'we don't do intros' and as I hadn't the time to argue the point just went with it.

That explains why I have trouble dancing...I'm usually too busy listening to the band. lol!

Fair enough - we work sometimes with a caller who doesn't like intros. "Two notes" is all he wants.

Thought I try this one .
played in D then into G.  A little on the jerky side (trying to do to much or playing to fast).
Better late then never!
