Where are all the players? I thought they'd be rushing in for this well known tune.

Anyway here's my contribution:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFiN3tvD0Y4

I notice no-one has taken up my idea of playing it as a double major - for example, against the chords of G and A. I can't begin to do it on my one-row, but surely someone out there is willing to give it a go?

I was puzzling over that till I found your earlier post which makes it clear that you're referring to playing in A.   So yes now I know what it means I would use that harmony, although I think it can be overdone.   Same with using the C chord or the odd C natural in when playing Soldiers Joy in D.   I guess these are references to Mixolydian mode with a flat seventh, but I don't know if there's a name for the harmonic relationship.

It seems like the English people are too busy running around at festivals to have time for recording!  ;D
I wanted to practice a bit more, but July is going to fly away before I get a chance to record so here's my attempt.

Where are all the players?

Back from holiday today! Waiting for a webcam replacement to arrive (connecting a Logitech 5000 with iMovie does *not* go well), and then will see what I can record. I kind of want to go back to me doing a video where you can actually see me/what I'm playing, rather than using rather impersonal graphics/photos as I've had to do over the past month or two.

Cheers,

Clive

Hey, ukebert...what's up with that? Not Cock of the North? ???
I like it anyway, though. Great tunes. Has a nice careless, lively, ramble...it would fit well into a movie soundtrack ;)

Yeah, that was going for. Just a shame that I rushed all the way through. And no, not Cock of the North. I honestly did start out to record it, but ended up recording that instead, which I thought was more fun.

Here's my take on this tune: just played straight with no tricks this month, and much as I would normally play it for dance:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vlxV3HU70Q

Played on a Hohner Pokerwork in D/G, albeit a dry tuned one (heresy you say!)

Cheers,

Clive

PS: I put a few eyebrow jiggles at the end to please my fans!

Cock of the North seems to be an excellent tune for using the bass buttons on a B/C box. Not too many tunes that can be said of! Note to self - Keep practising!

Eyebrows?  you know with the confession of old age I do believe there often
are words said that should be left in silent keeping. sometimes a handicaps such as
speaking when not necessary, or in another sense brutal talk be left for critics and
not friends. In my adolecent viewing of melnet (a few months at the most ) I have enjoyed
the good the bad and the ugly experiments so well familiar to the Tune of the Month.
Each and everyone has been remarkable to watch. And from the beging Clives playing
has been, if not always inspiring, always just about brilliant. The eyebrow included.
Now thanks to you all for doing so well and giving others in other places a daily moment
of good feeling.       Clive,  "The Cock of the North" was there and solid as usual.
