"Stiamh", as many of you certainly realize, is faux-Irish and is intended to be pronounced Steve, which is my first name, or rather a contraction thereof. Years ago friends named their daughter Niamh and on a whim I signed the congratulations card "Stiamh" - a rather lame joke that went down unexpectedly well and is still remembered. In fact Niamh, now 23, will often write my name in that fashion.

BTW, pronounced in strict Irish fashion it would be STEE-uv, so next time you meet an Irish Niamh, gain credit by pronouncing her name properly as NEE-uv.  (:)
