Yes, a big metal badge with nice sharp edges to really hack the back of your bellows to bits and scratch lumps out of the celluloid/varnish!  >:E

I'd far prefer a case sticker, maybe incorporating the forum url so that it might advertise this place to non-believers. The International Concertina Association did one some years ago, and I know that mine has received a fair bit of attention from players who see my cases. Not sure whether it had any effect in raising the ICA profile in terms of membership enquiries though....

(Tried to take a photo for attachment, but it's too dark here right now (1am) and the flash bounces badly off the shiny surface; may try again tomorrow...)

Trouble is, not everyone takes their box with them wherever they go (or do they?) so perhaps we could have both a badge and a sticker

or maybe a way to signal your a forum member.
I know on other forums there are things like, having a yellow hankerchief, or a tiara or a fez is the way to spot a member of those forums.
So maybe a coloured [or melodeon logo-ed] handkerchief tied somewhere to bag box or on your person would be a good identifier?

I like the tiara/fez option. Or what about a T-shirt with a motto: "Melodeon players do it at both ends simultaneously". :o

Bit tricky if you're chatting away to a stranger about melodeons just because he happens to have a handkerchief of the same colour about his person...and it turns out he is a banjo player or something. :|bl

Given I am across the pond, the mailing of a pin might be a bit ridiculous. How about sending it pinned onto a suitable tshirt?  If not "I heart melodeon" how about "I am not Reg Wilson" with a suitable representation of a Wesson melodeon?

Now you're talking.

How about something simple that can't be mistaken for anything else?

I'd suggest black face make up, top hat, tabard, bells, and a tankard strapped to the belt. Beards optional. Then we can't be confused with anyone else at a folk gathering.

This is what I was going to point out. It's not a good idea to wear badges when you're playing a melodeon, and certainly not the enamel pin sort.
Besides, if you're a small person with a large box, people won't see it anyway while you're sitting in a session, and the same goes for T-shirts.
Case stickers are fine if you carry your box around in it's case, but personally I always use rucksacks.

The only practical thing that came to mind to me was a wristband of some sort, maybe a plaited bracelet, that anyone can wear, doesn't get in the way, and can be easily seen while you're playing.

P.S. Blimey....6 replies while I've been writing this!!

This is now officially silly.

Mind you once went to Bromyard FF with my brother and my mum told her sisters who lived there we would be easy to spot as we were big blokes with beards.
