Problem with compose window
« on: July 26, 2010, 12:40:19 PM »

I was composing quite a long reply post this morning and found that after 10-12 lines instead of showing the line where the cursor was the compose window would jump back up to the beginning of the message. The only way to see what/where I was typing was to use the side slide to move it down, but even then, as soon as I typed the next letter it jumped back up. So I had to complete most of the typing by guess work.

Is this a general fault of the system - I am sure it has happened to me before?

Happens to me (both before and after the recent site update so I doubt anything has changed as a result of that), once you fill the window up it doesn't want to stay on the line with the cursor.

I'm running XP pro with IE8 as the browser so I kept quiet assuming it was my end (though thought it might be a neat way of keeping postings short  >:E ).

I tend to 'compose' in notepad and paste in if it bugs me (if I think about it)

Thats why I'd kept quiet :o

But if my shame saves Theo or Clive going on a wild goose chase then I've done my good deed for the day

As it's a nice day for coming out......

My name is Richard, and I'm an aspiring Malodeonist (nb this line typed off the bottom of the box Theo.)

I've just run a quick test on three browsers on my mac, Safari, Firefox and Camino.  All behaved properly in composing long messages.

Anyone see this problem with any other browser than IE8?

Works Ok for me on W7 using Firefox, Chrome or IE(whatever the latest).

Seem something similar on my iPad using Safari but that is probably a red herring

Ah, but if you put all the words in ....

What I tried just now was to copy and paste my initial post 3 times into a reply compose page. When I had done that I then typed in one new letter and it jumped back up to the top.

I'm sure this was mentioned in a thread a good while back. It just seemed to be with IE8. I use IE8 and did encounter it a number of times, but not recently. (Just tried a number of dummy long posts - no problem). It may be that some relatively recent Windows update has made the problem go away.

I am using IE8 and have all the updates done automatically.

I tend to 'compose' in notepad and paste in if it bugs me (if I think about it)

This looks like a good solution to be going on with for longer posts.

Requisite off topic element

Anyone own up to being the lady Melodeonist with a red club type Hohner on a boat, which went past a grimy bearded bloke by the river near Wroxham around 4.30 today ??
I waved and called if it was a melnetter but was unable to flash my secret melnet leather identifier for fear of persecution / ASBO......

Just noticed this Thread - I get the same problem, and have indeed mentioned it before (ie when I wrote 2 separate postings in response to something in the past, so could see what I was writing! nobody else owned up to the problem at that point). Happens to me in the Message Reply box on Facebook as well.

Using Windows XP with IE8.

Looks likely it's an O/S & or Browser 'feature' folks
