Hi Sylvia and welcome.

I don't know much about the styles you are interested in, but enough to suggest that there are big differences between the three you have mentioned, and even within Italian music there are lots of regional variations.  For example in Southern Italy the Organetto is king and is used for playing relatively simple very fast, repetitive dance tunes.  If you search the forum you will find quite a range of information on the Oranetto and its repertoire.  My limited knowledge of the other two styles is that they are quite chromatic, and use distinctive modes which are probably quite difficult to play on the melodeon.

I suggest you look for examples of your kind of music on youtube and see what instruments are being used.

how to play Klezmer
The problem with Klezmer on melodeon is that most songs use the 'klezmer' scales. In particular the 1st, 4th and 5th mode of the harmonic minor, requiring notes that aren't on the standard melodeon.

Klezmer scales make some very nice patterns on a half-step box, just a matter of choosing the right one so they come out in the right key!

That music is very chromatic and often played in flat keys.  Some of George's comments about B/C/C# boxes in that discussion here might be helpful.

I think Jax Delaguerre plays Klezmer etc on the Club style box. He has a wonderful site at

All that said, and I hate to say it here, but I suspect this music is usually piano accordion territory. No doubt there are exceptions, but a quick google images search on klezmer accordion tends to confirm that.

Within your budget a PA is probably more realistic too.

De Dannan recorded two blazing Klezmer pieces under the title "Two Jewish Reels" on the album Ballroom, with Mairtin O Connor on C#/D box. You should be able to listen a bit of them on this page http://www.amazon.com/Ballroom-Dannan/dp/B000005CSD - except I couldn't make the clip play.

But it will take you an awful long time to learn to play like Mairtin O Connor. Like Tom, I think you'd be far better off with a piano accordion, quite common in Klezmer, or a continental chromatic.
