Missing messages...
« on: August 29, 2010, 05:55:19 PM »

Noticed a few of my messages... including these ones... got kind of 'scrambled/garbled' recently (might have been due to the forum data loss)?

http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,4374.msg55298.html#msg55298

http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,4077.msg51009.html#msg51009

http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,3977.msg49627.html#msg49627

Large chunks of text were missing (and certain remaining parts of the message were duplicated/misquoted)... However... I put the message into edit mode... and the original message was still all there, and properly formatted... all I needed to too was to press 'save', and the original message was posted back up...

Any idea what/why this is a happening? I'm somewhat puzzled... ???

(that said... I notice in all three messages I'm using non-standard characters... is this possibly something to do with it?)

I've seen it too, and I don't really know what does it. I too suspect non-standard characters; I think the settings of the forum software pre- and post- crash aren't quite the same, but I have no way of knowing what they were or should be. Anyway, if I change it now to fix it, I'll break later messages with non-standard chars. So, I guess for now we'll just have to use this as a work around. I doubt you'll see this effect in new messages.

Just scrolled back through my posts and yes, Clive is right, every time there was an accented character the entire paragraph, and sometimes the entire post, was blanked out.  As Eejay said, everything is there in the edit screen but the accented character appears as a little box.

A big pain in the derrière, esp. as I use a French keyboard and putting in the accents is easy and second nature in words like Séamus, Bouëbe, Çlîve, Eèjai, Léstère...
