OK, well done, you tricked me into watching a Rosie & Jim video.  First time for everything, I guess.

As for your version, you seem to have the 'A music' down well, but the B section seems to get lost.  I'm not sure, but I think you might be losing track of where the first beat in the bar is.  If you listen to the original carefully, tapping your foot to the beat, you'll notice that the phrases in the B music have a 'pick-up' note, meaning that the strong beat occurs on the second note in the phrase.  If you're able to accent this note, I think the rest of it will start to come together better.

Still, I like the fact that you're looking in unusual places for things to play.  There's an old TV theme I've wanted to do for ages, but one section of it still eludes me, so it'll it have to wait for another time.

My main problem was I didn't actually have the proper theme to listen to. I was doing it all from how my brain remembered it. Which is a bit haphazard and all over the place skipping from one verse to another.
I know I was struggling with the Rosie's bag Jim's drawing book....and....and John he writes it down sections.

Well I'm trying to practice picking up tunes by ear. I need tunes that I know well but I haven't 'played' before to practice with and TV/Radio themes seemed the best choice. (well for someone who watches the amount of telly I do it does). ;)

The firemens tune from Trumpton is a good melodeon tune.

I was gonna try 'Playdays' but its a bit short. But there was a song on it if I remember rightly for the roundabout stop that started "Roll up and ride on rosie...." when the carousel moved?

Hmmm...or postman pat or fireman sam.
ahh...the late 80's/early 90's thats when kids tv was good.

I've always found Rosie and Jim just that little bit sinister...

My girls absolutely love Rosie and Jim, we have to hunt down old videos in the charity shop! And so, inspired by ladydetemps, I have taken the opportunity to post my very first recording, having been messing around on the melodeon for a couple of months now. You can find it here:

That was about Take 53...  :Ph

That had a lovely bouncy rhythm to it. Not bad at all for two months, and perfectly illustrates what a melodeon can do so much more easily than a piano accordion.
You didn't make it sound hard!
Do you already play another musical instrument?

Thanks for the compliment Anahata.

Yes, I've played the trombone for many years and a bit of piano, so the musical theory bit isn't a problem. Also, my dad was a pretty good harmonica player so even though I never learnt to play, I knew the basics. Now I've just got to get to grips with those buttons! I'm finding the melodeon a very rewarding instrument to learn and watching the videos that have been posted by people on this forum inspires me to keep trying new things.

Btw, I do think that buying the John Kirkpatrick DVD was the best thing I did. I'm still on the one-row section but learning so much from it.
