OK, so here's my attempt at this month's theme.  I've had a go at learning and adapting a tune called Kruspolska, which I remember as being a highlight from an old album by Swedish band Hedningarna.  How I ever came accross that album in the first place, I've no idea.

Unfortunately, once I'd decided on my choice of *cough* Swedish *cough* costume, any thought of taking it seriously went out the window...

Hotel Palindrome play this. I hadn't realised that it was Scandi. Trouble with not having liner notes on mp3 players. Who cares about taking things seriously :P Although if you can make music like that it really isn't an issue.

Maybe it's Finnish, if Hedningarna did it? But if I'm not wrong the girl was Swedish. Haven't heard about them for years! Nicely played anyway! The outfit was...hmm.. interesting. ;D

Hi Susi - I think you've got it the wrong way around.  According to what I've read elsewhere, Hedningarna are Swedish, but at the time of recording Kruspolska had two Finnish female vocalists.

You may be right there... I never listened much to them, but my sister was a great fan.

I love this one..........
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWFBbh4A1Ew&feature=related

He's fabulous. One of my favourite players.
I love the way he gets so much style out of some really knackered old boxes that he plays. He's got a lot of video on YouTube, well worth going through when you've got some time.

Thought I'd have a go at this one. It's a folk tune learned from listening to nyckelharpa, (one of my favorite instruments that I cannot play), and also from a copy of the "dots" sent to me by Louise (Ziacmusi). It's a simple but happy tune called Edwards Glada played in the key of A on the faithful Green Blingbox.

That is just beautiful. What a lovely start to the day with my cup of tea. Off to walk the dog over the fields with the tune in my head. Thanks j.w. and hoorah for the green blingbox.  8)

cheers

A very pretty and catchy tune, nicely played. I've got it going round in my head too. (no dog to walk though)

Thanks for the kind encouraging words. If anyone would like the dots, pm me. I'd post them, but the forum robot keeps telling me that the file is too big.

Hello again. I think I have found the magic size required to post this file. Good tune for Commando Trad somewhere in Sweden!

Thought I'd put this up 'cos it's good. Mads Eden Playing, "Ja det gjör det" (Yes it does) And ?? I'll get the second tune in a minute.

Enjoy.

I'll come back with my own effort soon

Sorry to keep putting other people up on here, but this is soooo good.
And some of the longest fingers I've seen.

A Finnish tune.

Thanks for this, but TOTM is about our recordings rather than the many wonderful other interpretations out there - otherwise we just flood things, which rather dilutes our own efforts. Can I politely ask everyone to direct things such as this to the Recordings and Videos board instead?

Thanks,

Clive

Clive, you're quite right, and I understand the intention of ThoTM.  However I would also like to recognise Chas's intentions of bringing a superb Finnish musician to the attention of anyone interested in this particular thread.  I find this mind-opening process one of the best aspects of melnet - Tunes from Scandinavia are obviously best going to be played by Scandinavians, after all.  Of course, it would be nice if she was a contributing member, but maybe melnet is not as well-known outside the UK as it should be?

Fully understand that Clive and my humbling apologies to all, but she was good though eh?

Now for my own humble effort at a Swedish Brides March.
Very popular tune where I live as the village of Laxarby is not that far from where I am living at present.

Played wearing a hat, on the Hohner Corso G/C that I bought a couple of weeks ago for the meagre sum of £75 !!

Did the hat come with the corso then or did it cost extra? ;)

Aye lad! She can play a bit that lass! Apologies really not necessary by the way, and thanks for uploading your videos - I'll take a proper look this evening!
