Thanks Nigel, point taken, nicely.

I've been told before to slow it it down and every time I try I still end up speeding up. I'll keep practising.

Welcome to my world ;D It is annoyingly difficult to tell when you are playing something that sounds rushed, even if your speed is steady.

Jan-Anders Andersson's Bicycle Pump Polka by yours truly on a Hohner Erica

Really enjoyed that, Lester. But did the box survive it?

Kind of think it is more suitable for a hohner than the more up market melodeon, but I believe it is the only tune in captivity that can only be played on a melodeon!

As there are so many great Scan tunes out there I found it really difficult to decide on a tune to learn. I started off with Metäkukkia, a Finnish waltz I found on WWW.ggms.nl (thanks Gerard) however it starts with 12 bars all on the pull so I had loads of problems running out of air :-\

I then came across www.folkwiki.se (don't know if this link has been mentioned before) and started to learn a Swedish Mazurka efter Pelle Fors.

I decided to up load both videos as I really enjoyed trying to learn these tunes, I realise I should try and look as though I'm enjoying myself when playing and shouldn't cringe every time I hit the wrong note - I'll try and improve or just stick to the headless videos ;D

Hope the Melodeon face isn't too off putting

So

Is Holland counted as Scandinavia? Anyway, here is a late addition, courtesy of the iphone mic again, so you will have to excuse the strange EQ.

edit: Lester - nice to see your playing that tune. I might have written it down, but I sure cant remember how it went...

I love hearing different interpretations of the same melody :) ....
I know that one as Skepparschottis from Jan Andersson--sorry for my lazy tempo on this--I need to pick up the pace to yours. By the way, the iphone never ceases to impress me.

End of the month, and it's time to start a new theme! As ever, late/very late/very very late entries to this thread are always welcome.

WOW - I never realised that it was in any way a common tune or that it had a proper name! I'm really pleased to have found out!

That is a cracking tune isn't it? Nicely played - plenty of bounce and drive to it!

I have re-posted one of my tunes for this category, as I simply could not tolerate the poor sound quality after it was uploaded to Youtube. Although it's the same recording, I have been able to tweak up the quality a bit, now the string accompaniment is not so muddy. (My playing didn't improve any, just the upload  :P). I also added the new upload on Onmvoice, so you can compare the higher quality audio that is achieved on that venue:

A late entry.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NIO_sa4nmY

"Serpentiner Och Konfetti" by Mats Eden.  What I was aiming for though was an arrangement by Ian Dedic.  It was never going to sound entirely like Ian of course because unlike him I do not have eleven fingers all made of rubber on my right hand.

PS For how (in my opinion) it ought to sound try here;

When I was over in Witney I learned that this is the Swedish tune that British melodeon players know. Very interesting, how come???! I've never heard it before, not even in the fiddle context (Mats Edén is mostly known as a fiddler and plays the melodeon within the fiddle tradition). Has he been over in the UK making this tune famous? Where did you get it from?

Ian Dedic got it from Mats Edén, and decided it would make a great alternative tune for Hammersmith Morris to dance Bampton Side Step, also a Schottische for use by The Committee Band. Both usages have made it quite famous: The Committee Band recorded it on their first album about 15 years ago, and several other morris teams, including one of Bampton's own, have copied it from Hammersmith.

That's roughly the story - I expect Ian D will be along to correct the details shortly...
