Poll: Tune of the Month for November 2010
« on: October 24, 2010, 11:25:34 PM »

Here we go again folks!

4 worthy nominations - Steamboat missed out time; Duchess/Dark and Old Woman have both missed out narrowly recently. Midnight is simply a lovely tune.

ABC for Duchess/Dark Girl, courtesy of Lester:
Code: [Select]
X:79
T:Dark Girl Dressed in Blue
M:4/4
L:1/8

Spotify users can find an amazing version of Duchess/Dark Girl (labelled 'The Duchess Dressed in Blue') on Tiger Moth's album 'Mothballs Plus'; Courtesy of our own Anahata, we have a splendid version by Ethel's Cats (second tune) or a concertina version of it here, albeit in a slightly different format to fit on the instrument. We're talking about the english tune by the way, not the irish tune with the same name which is *completely* different.

Old Woman Tossed in a Blanket - a video of it used for morris is here. Old Woman, being a morris tune, comes in many different versions; any version is appropriate to post should this win.

Steamboat Hornpipe - a rather quick, but nonetheless musically impressive version of it here, by Boys of the Lough (it's the first tune of the set)

Midnight on the Water - well, frankly there's rather a lot of fiddle solo videos of this out there, so how about a Nyckelharpa version instead?

Happy voting!

Re Dark Girl Dressed in Blue: the Spiers and Boden link says you can't stream it any more and you have to buy it now.
Here's another ("one I prepared earlier...") : http://www.ethelscats.co.uk/mp3/04LNB.mp3
It's the first second tune in that set, starting about halfway through.

Ah, splendid. Thank you! The second tune in the set, I think though? The first one's the LNB Polka... which would a good nomination in its own right sometime!

Very nice tunes this time!!! Hard to pick only one!!! I LOVE Midnight etc on the fiddle, but have never tried it on the box. Hmm.. The hornpipe sounds SO much like a lovely Swedish schottische I've forgotten the name of, so it has to be that one..

I voted for Duchess/Dark Blue because it would provide the most challenge for me. And it's a happy sounding tune.

Midnight on the Water sounds great on a four-stop, even more cajun waltz like.  Duet with a fiddle - even better!

Steamboat Hornpipe has been on my list of tunes to learn for sometime - seems like I will HAVE to learn it know!
