Seems like I'm quick of the mark this time. This tune is very popular at our local session in Adderbury and not one of the fast tempo variety.
Learnt from the playing of Paul Scourfield.

Sandy - that was lovely. I'm going to try and learn that for my local session - they'll love it.

Thanks

Wow, Sandy and Clive have already set the bar very high on this thread!  Definately something to aspire to...well, at least, maybe one day.

... and here's an early theme entry from me too!

I'm stretching the definition of 'local' here a little; this is a popular tune about 50 miles due south of where I live, at the George Inn session, near London Bridge station....

Ah yes, recorded on Monday at the George Inn, I take it! Here, it's played on a D/G, and comes out in E minor.

Cheers,

Clive

A fantastic tune
Are Concertina recordings allowed on here ?

Hi Alan - we usually upload video and sound files to external sites, typically youtube for videos or onmvoice.com for mp3's and post the link here, which works pretty well.

But don't I remember in the distant past when you played with Rosbif you played melodeon on one of the albums? Have you still got one about the house? I dare you to get it out again... >:E >:E >:E >:E

Having said the above. This is really (I think) about us listening to different boxes played in different styles. The tune is almost, dare I say it. Irrelevant.

There are so many different ways of playing the same tune.

OK, over on Tune of the Month Steve posted a multitracked extravaganza on the Steamboat Hornpipe, and I promised I'd do something similar but (arguably more appropriately) in the "session tunes"  theme of the month.

I hope this doesn't cause my web site to go into meltdown...

We respectfully request the court to take certain previous offences into consideration.
The subjects of these YouTubes also get played a lot in our Sunday night so-called English music session:
* Meillionen, A Welsh set dance
* Welsh Jigs Tafarn Y Wheatsheaf  and Rasus Doncaster
* Harliquin Air and Tom Fowler's Hornpipe
* Bang Up (Hampshire Pyle ms.) and Sweep's Hornpipe

I was right!  :D

Very useful to listen to though. I've learnt both these tunes by ear only (they get played at every DDMM apres morris session) so it was interesting to hear them out of the session context and to notice little things about both tunes that'd I'd not before. Thanks!  (:)

This recording could be used for the last 3 ThotM. The first tune is a session favourite, the second is a tune that I learned on my holidays, the third is a Scandinavian tune and the fourth is... none of the above :P

Hesleyside Reel followed by Foul Weather Call followed by Pigen i Gult followed by Skirmish. It's a set that I am popularising within our ceilidh band, in order to ensure that we play at least some English tunes! I'm rather pleased with it, although the recording is a bit shoddy in places. All of these tunes work beautifully on box, I urge you to try it. I also note that I didn't speed up (too) much! Hooray!
Some rhythmic inaccuracies remain however...

Wow! a marathon set  :Ph
By the way, Skirmish has undergone extensive folk processing from Nick's Original
...and I think it was once up for a ToTM but didn't win the vote, so while it's "none of the above" that's only by a narrow escape.
