By the way, Skirmish has undergone extensive folk processing from Nick's Original
...and I think it was once up for a ToTM but didn't win the vote, so while it's "none of the above" that's only by a narrow escape.

I started with Nick's original and then added the bits I liked from the version that Dog Rose use (as in the Jools Holland clip) to make that particular version. I think that it works OK.

OK, over on Tune of the Month Steve posted a multitracked extravaganza on the Steamboat Hornpipe, and I promised I'd do something similar but (arguably more appropriately) in the "session tunes"  theme of the month.

Well this is as close as I can get to a session over here in Sweden. Melodeons in this area are thin on the ground, so when this chance came up I thought why not.

This just a short - just two tunes -exert of a long dance.
I'm just jogging along in the back as it's the first time I've heard the tunes. So I've no idea what we are doing.    The dance however I've seen done many times. It involves playing a short medley of different dance tunes to keep the dancers on their toes. So to speak.
Kept my ears alert I can tell you

First tune is"Syver's Mazurka" (That's just someone's name). The're both Mazurka's.

No Theo. I think that Flax is cotton, which gets made into linen later on. i.e. Linen is Bedclothes.

We wouldn't harvest our bed clothes.

John Locke's Hornpipe and the Coleford Jig

John Kirkpatrick calls it John Locke's Polka but frankly I don't agree. And the Coleford Jig is no more a jig than the Radstock Jig, but that's what it's called.

Anyway, enjoy - and learn if you don't know them; I think they're cracking tunes.
