A Bass-less interpretation

So here is my hesitant entry for this month. I held back because I don't feel like I have this tune yet, and because I wanted to play it on this accordion, which has the Hohner Bass system from Mars (based on the B row and sort of useless for this application).

This was mostly to show off this immaculate Double Ray Deluxe BC with 3 voices (MMM) and almost never used.  I even have the original carton with label, etc. The high E does work, but the buttons are so low I missed it twice.

Are you sure, Anahata?  It sounded very much like a run of A, Bb(dim), B, A on the bass, just before the end of the second B music section.  Mind you maybe my ears are deceiving me.  Or is it a spot of clever low note RH playing?

Hi again Chris

It was A, Bmin, C, A as far as I remember - I'm working it out in my head whilst at work and no melodeon to hand. The Bmin was made up of the bass note and right hand notes as the Erica had a Bmaj as standard.

Cheers

Apologies, my ears were indeed deceiving me. (A Bbdim Bm A might work, but that wasn't your version!)  Anyway, it was brilliant playing!

Here's my attempt at this month's tune...

No cg content this month, I'm afraid, but I did dig out the little toe-controlled Kaossilator in the hope of at least doing something different.

Fantastic.  You can dance a very nice schottische to this.  Sounds like the steamboat went to a tropical island.....

I have recorded a version of this, on BCC# but I was in rather a hurry and so when a B section went wrong I just played another one straight after, thinking that I could just snip it. Unfortunately Windows Movie Maker is choking on me :(

And I think that even given the amount of time I've spent trying to get the blasted thing to work I would save time by rerecording tomorrow :(

Which I have now done and put it up. A shame, because my other version (although slightly worse) had the advantage in that since I was going out to formal that evening I was all dressed up in suit tie and gown. This is very rough (before yesterday I'd never played the tune on BCC#) and I haven't been playing the instrument that long, but it's a start.

Indeed, I've been playing it in Ceilidh Band rehearsals all this term. The perils of picking up a new instrument are even greater when playing tunes that you've played on the D/G at least 300 times already...

Works both ways too.
I still remember the first time I tried playing, on my new D/G pokerwork in a ceilidh, a tune which I knew from hundreds of times playing on B/C/C#.
(In Cambridge too, as it happens)

Sounds OK to me. There has been many a good tune ruined by playing it too fast.
