Hope it was played on the D row then :)

I worked out the A part in A on the D row but struggled with the B part so fell onto the safer row  :|bl

Familiar with the tune but only just learnt this so there are no frills or variations yet. Will try to do another version once I've experimented with it. (Probably with much less swing). Played on Hohner Pressed Wood in G

Never mind that, very nice indeed with that swing/bouncy backbeat  (:)

Nice one as usual Sandy.

A long time ago (1984) I recorded a version of Steamboat on the album "English Melodeon Players". I didn't know it was called Steamboat then, I called it Fred's tune because I learnt it from Fred Cook of Bampton, he called it Jonathan's tune for a similar reason. I also learnt it in D and was shocked when, years later I heard everyone playing it in G. I thought it might be a giggle to put it on here to be derided however, although I now have it on a CD-R, I cannot for the life of me convert the file to something compatible for this forum.

Anyway I've listened to it again, cringed, wondered what the bloody hell I was playing at and why I used to play like that. Ah, the folly of youth . . .

Thank you and Anahata for your kind comments.

I hope you do work out a way of converting the file. I would love to hear it............not that I know what a CD-R is  :-[

cheers
Sandy

I know that version well, and was sorely tempted to record an emulation of it but I thought I'd better leave that to you if you wanted to, or I'd be accused of plagiarism, or told it wasn't as good as the original or something. It took me ages to persuade my fingers to do those tricky chromatic runs in whichever variation it was... dead impressed, I was.

I have it on tape and could convert to something the forum can listen to; of course I wouldn't dream of doing so without your permission, especially as it would be a flagrant copyright violation.

Anyway, I was hoping you'd show us all how it should be done. Folly of youth, indeed !  (:)

Hi Anahata

Yes, please post it. I know you know your way around this technical stuff and I'm a lost cause, I don't think I'm going to manage to convert mine. Thanks.

Excuse brevity - at work, looking over my shoulder.

Like Pam, I have really enjoyed the versions of the TOTM that have been posted so far this month. Here is my contribution, the first on my shiny new Castagnari Laura. Despite the fact that it is almost physically identical to the Morgane I played for a couple of years, I'm finding that the keyboard feel, bellows control, and especially the air button are quite different from the Hohner. I'm impressed anew with all you veterans who shift effortlessly from one box to another. Anyway, here goes:

Two cracking and completely different versions!

I've no idea why you should have been at all embarrassed about that one, Martin, it just made me chuckle because of its inventiveness!

Crikey, that's amazing...............and it's almost like you move to a psychedelic mode towards the end......I love it  (:)

"outrageous", "psychedelic" - that's what I've been striving for all my life. Thanks for those comments.
Seriously though I don't play like this anymore. Nowadays I go for tasteful, economic . . . erm . . . perhaps lazy or just old.

And I love all the other versions I've heard on here.

And thanks to Anahata for posting it.

What did you play it on, Martin?  Sounds like a 12 bass three row of some sort?
