November has drawn (nearly) to a close, and it's time to move onto another tune. As ever, all late entries to this tune are welcomed and encouraged - feel free to keep adding them to this thread.

Cheers,

Clive

A late entry for this month. If you find crappy playing excruciating PLEASE don't watch this :-) The sight of the recording equipment causes my already hesitant fingers to stumble! However I love TOTM and feel bad about not contributing to something that I have gotten so much out of (believe it or not!).
Thanks to all of you who have shared so much on this forum.

I have bought a couple of new USB mics and decided to try them out by recording something - Steamboat Hornpipe popped into my head.
My version is un-dotted I think.....
Yes - it's essentially undotted.
Your particular steamboat wasn't named 'Turbinia' by any chance, was it?  ;)

Is it ever written or played dotted?

Following my audio link to MySpace - here is my video version on YouTube - still a bit quick though  :)

Oh I removed the link to re-record it - might put it up again later...

I originally recorded this to practice my clog steps to...which is why its slow...but it actually came out without mistakes so thought I'd post it.

For some reason when I add the basses I speed up hence melody only.

Things you rediscover ... ten years ago two friends (Nigel Ward and Gerry Bailey) and me recorded a demo in Nigel's back room. The recording was through a mixing desk and straight onto Minidisc, no computer jiggery pokery for us then. In those days it seems that I could do stuff in one take   ::)

Anyhow, one track included the Steamboat Hornpipe ( though in a slightly different form to ones I've listened to here).

Samian - Steamboat Hornpipe / The Swiss Boy

To my ears now it drags a little (get your fingers off those keys Andrew!), but it's an interesting tune variant anyhow.

Do I detect Mr Stradling's influence there? :D

Among others, Saltarelle Pastourelle II D/G; Hohner 4-stop 1-rows in C & G; assorted Hohners; 3-voice German (?) G/C of uncertain parentage; lovely little Hlavacek 1-row Heligonka; B♭/E♭ Koch. Newly acquired G/C Hohner Viktoria. Also Fender Jazz bass, Telecaster, Stratocaster, Epiphone Sheraton, Charvel-Jackson 00-style acoustic guitar, Danelectro 12-string and other stuff..........

Actually, funnily enough ... no    :P

I learnt it in my early melodeon playing days off Hugh Rippon, though where he got if from I don't know. I might ask him next time we do a dance together.

Hi all
Been looking and listening in for ages thought I should have a go.
This is my first tune of the month. 11 months late but now that I have some idea on how to upload to utube I can hopefully contribute on a fairly regular basis. Played on Gaelic iv BCC# with a few misplaced notes.
Now does this link thing work??

I think the tempo is perhaps a little slow for the tune as I know it but the bouncing lilt lends it a charm all its' own.  ;D
