Pure therapy - I was labouring under the, as now appears, totally wrong impression that having acquired two new melodeon,s recently I would have to sell one of my others but it's seems I am in fact deplete of instruments by current standards.

The latest arrived yesterday from Udo Shneeberg and what fun.  Different sounds, different finger patterns.  It is only the rucksack model - may I need the 'proper job' ?!!!!!

I suspect this thread will never die!

But lets turn the question round.  Is there anyone out there with just one melodeon?

What I reall mean, is there anyone who is completely content, happy and at ease with just one melodeon as opposed to just financially challenged?

Not me, I've got about 4 at the last count and another one on Theo's waiting list and I've only been playing ten months.

Now guitar, thats different.  My guitar was built for me by Cambridge luthier Bob Welford in 1983.  Its almost become part of me and has followed me in my progession from classical guitarist to folk fingerstyle.  I just wouldn't want to play anything else.  Yes I've dallied with other guitars, but it feels like adultery!

does anyone have a relationship like that with their melodeon?

C'mon, Nick. What sort of sicko would admit to this???   :o :o :o
Psychiatric help should be sought immediately for anyone suffering JOB (Just One Box) syndrome.

Let's have no more such ludicrous suggestions.... :'( :P ;D

Long live MAD, and its sufferers!   ;)

Guilty as charged M'Lud, just my Erika left. However like the National Rifle Association, you'll have to prise it from my cold, dead hands.

Prior to sentence may I submit, one tenor saxophone, one flute, one banjo, one guitar, one synthesiser, one electronic wind instrument, one professional arranger keyboard and an Apple MIDI system be taken into account before I am sectioned.

It's not that bad, Rees. I have some very convincing free reed samples on my synth, arranger keyboard and in the MIDI system. Can play some convincing Cajun on the Akai EWI 4000 as converting to a mean or similar temperament is fairly easily. ;D

Looks like you got a few bargains there.

You don't really qualify as suffering from JOB (Just One Box) syndrome as you do own a piano accordion too....

Mind you there are some on this board who may accuse you of suffering something much more serious when admitting to piano accordion ownership!   :-X

Suitable acronym, anyone???

Enjoy your "new" melodeon.

I bought the accordion (years ago) when suffering a deep seated longing for a Cajun box, but not having the funds. That desire still lingers.....

I (technically, at least) have four just now. A G/C Erica, a C/F Honey-colored Pokerwork, a quite old C/F Beaver that I hope to render playable for my grandson, and just this morning committed to a nice looking one row Lester of indeterminate key. (Looked very nice, in the photos at least, and at just $50, how could I pass it up?) Since I first picked up the melodeon one year ago, I suppose this qualifies as at least a mild case of MAD.

BUT!........I also own three piano accordions just now, and have probably had ten or so pass through my hands since I once again picked up that instrument of my childhood. And I must admit to being a bit puzzled by the (albeit mostly good-natured) negative attitude toeards the PA. I don't seem to recall seeing, on any of the PA forums, a like response to the button box. Could it be that we're guilty of some prejudice here? Tsk!

Bob (Who does NOT play "Moon River" or show tunes or anything by Andrew Lloyd Weber on his PA!)

Sorry, but, well, you see.........taking PA lessons here in the 50's and 60's included covering all the repeated Moon River requests from all those who paid for all our lessons. And Perry Como hits. And certain movie themes. Over, and over, and over again. So give me a hambo any time!

Since last posting on this thread, I have acquired NO new melodeons.

I have, however, acquired:

1 mandola
1 mandolin
1 archtop guitar
1 hollow body electric guitar
1 solid body electric guitar
1 tenor banjo

and sold:

1 mandolin
1 flamenco guitar
1 Greek bouzouki

...just in case anyone besides me is keeping score  ::)  (This is how *AD happens..)

I can't help noticing you haven't got a pedal steel guitar (sorry, this is the last time, promise).

Check my post on page 2: had one, gigged with it until I didn't want to lug it around anymore.  Actually, I could use one again...  Unfortunately, shipping to the US would likely be prohibitively expensive.

And, buying one in the US is significantly cheaper and easier than here.

Methinks that Waltham happens to possess a pedal steel that is looking for more regular playing..
