Lovely stuff Anahata, as always, but I have to ask. Did you spontaneously make up that descant line or did you stop and think about it first? Please say it isn't the former :P I can do RH harmony, but when taken on its own it isn't terribly musically coherent.

I wish... !
No, I spent some time working it out. Actually not so much working it out but quite a lot practising it to persuade my fingers to hit the right notes (still didn't get them all), and making the odd improvement in the process.

The lower RH harmony 2nd time though was something I've done before with that tune, as is most of the stuff with the basses.

Well thank goodness for that :P Mind you, I'm not sure that I could do that even with working it out. I could make a game stab at it, but part of the challenge must be working out something that works. Something to work on this year.

Here we go...
My offering of La Marianne

A little bit of Tony Hall - style descant last time round, and a few pipe-and-gurdy style drones here and there.
It seems I got the 1st and 2nd time bars wrong way round on the A music, but it seems to make just as much sense either way.

I tried quite hard for good sound, but as usual Youtube has mangled it. It sounds a lot better before I uploaded it.
I wish I knew how some other YouTube videos get such good sound.
Very nice indeed, thank you! I love your interpretations - they just go to show what can be done with an otherwise relatively straightforward tune. You are an inspiration to us all!

First congrats to Anahata on a sumptuously smooth and danceable version of the tune. I initially guessed that the pixelated beginning was 'artistic' - and sound was OK here.

As for descants - M. Paris is a also great one for counterpoint and (on G/C) will often keep a tune rolling with fingers 2/3/4 and somehow dot in a bass run using the right index finger - sort of same - but opposite to what Anahata did. Due to death of tape (and no player) I have no memory of how he played this particular piece.

I'm gonna change my sig in honour of this little video  ;D

Wow, thanks everyone.  :|bl
The pixellated effect at start was added by YouTube. I'll have to try a deliberate emulation of that some time - it's quite good!
I think the sound may have improved slightly (YouTube claim that further processing "may improve" the video quality)

M. Paris is a also great one for counterpoint and (on G/C) will often keep a tune rolling with fingers 2/3/4 and somehow dot in a bass run using the right index finger - sort of same - but opposite to what Anahata did.
Excuse me but I did I did (something like) that too!
In the A music 3rd time around: below the tune - Descending line G3 F#3 E3 DC2 etc. (except I didn't play it quite right)
4th time it's above the tune and slightly different.

As for Never play it quite the same way .. twice - does it matter whether it's by accident or by design?

I don't think so, but if you play it by accident and you like it, it's a bu**er to try and remember what happened !(scratchy head emote required)

...right, I'm off to learn the tune  (:)

hmmm...I'm trying to love this tune....but I just don't. I start playing then fall asleep with boredom figaratively speaking.
Probably give it a miss and concentrate on the theme of the month instead.

It's a simple tune, but that's the beauty of it; allows your own musicality and interpretation to come though.

Agreed :P I'm with ldt on this, the tune doesn't particularly appeal to me, but the more I hear it, the more it grows on me, so I might record a version by the end of the month.

My offering of La Marianne

It's a mystery to me how you can bring such a wealth of new musical ideas to a simple tune like this without introducing a trace of contrivance or artificiality. What a gift...thanks for sharing it with us.

Okay...It's more like 'level pegging' on the bad dancing front. ;)
My centre of balance is all wrong.
