Sandy - just got put onto this by Theo from another thread.
This is absolutely beautiful, lovely playing.
Well done!

Gone for more atmosphere rather than danceability. (and that's hopefully not just the noise of the computer fan)
Played on Hohner pressedwood

Lovely and inventive as ever. The atmosphere's certainly there!

Hi everyone

I did learn The Moon and Seven Stars for December but, unfortunately, we changed ISP and ended up without any internet for almost the whole of December >:(

I have enjoyed watching and listening to everyone's renditions of La Marianne.  I really like the tune, even though I didn't vote for it  ;)  I have enjoyed learning it even though my basses leave a bit to be desired!!

This is my attempt at La Marianne (I had a new laptop for Christmas with a built in webcam so recording it was easier and the result is without the red gremlin  ;D ):

(:) Hi Sandy, I'm getting a melodeon just like yours soon. When I'm nodding in the corner of an old people's home, I'd be thrilled if I could play half as well. I figure it will take that long. I'll be very popular anyway. I've been playing 2 months and I still can't get through a tune without mistakes ::)

Thanks for posting

Sandy, that really is beautifully played.  You've got the note length and emphasis down to a fine art.  I thought at first that you were providing a bit of rhythm from punching the side of the keyboard with your palm as you played, like John Kirkpatrick does.  But then I realised that the basses were smooth, so instead you must have developed great technique in releasing the RH buttons quickly.  I'm interested to know how you achieve that - do you hammer the buttons, keeping the fingers well away from the keyboard, or is it all down to close control and small movements?

Thanks Chris,

I'm sorry that it is audio only. New camcorder coming soon  :Ph

I've not been able to pick up the box today but think I know what's going on.
In recent months I have tried to play more staccato with the right hand as taught in JK's workshops.
I don't hammer the buttons down really, fingers are fairly close. I do punch the box a fair bit but think this usually happens at the start of phrases.
My idea with La Marianne was to get a slight blurry left hand with a clear melody with the right hand (but more so in the B part as it reminded me slightly of the B part from In Continental Mood.)

I am so chuffed with the comments about my playing style. There have been four or five 'Eureka' learning moments in the last two years. I'll hopefully write them down and put them on the teaching and learning page tomorrow. (All have come from workshops).

Sandy,
Thank you - that is just beautiful. Lovely sensitive playing with great style; gorgeous Hohner sound. You are an inspiration to us all.

You deserve it Sandy.

Please do tell us. I wondered, "how did she do that?" as I listened to your lovely rendition, which tripped along so lightly, as if on tiptoes.

to doggy, the above remark made by you was very painful for me to read.
i read sarcasim and meanness in it. of course your tone could be the
fault of your being american but then that lead to my thought that i am
too of the same citizenship. maybe you could say it as if you really mean it?
because it was not at all nice to read as a fellow citizen.

What??  ???

I didn't interpret it like that at all. I think Doc's comments were perfectly genuine, not sarcastic or mean at all, and highly complimentary of Sandy's playing.

Larry, I think you may have seen 'sarcasm andd meanness' where none was intended. I read docEdoc's post as a genuine request for Sandy to share her 'Eureka moments' with us and to explain how she achieved the light lilting tone in her rendition of La Marianne.

Are Satch and Mo members of Melnet too?

Very enjoyable rendition Sandy... found myself listening to more than just the tune ... where's the 'sighs contentedly' emoticon  ;)

Wow, this has covered so much in a powerful way. I really like some of the melody variations but also the solid bass lines. It also has that real Saltarelle feel.
The piccie is superb  8)
Thanks.
