Something I heard at Uni in the late 70's and rediscovered about 5 years ago.

As it says on the tin, I opened the box and these chestnuts rolled out. I think they will have to do. (I have just noticed that one is a repeat from another recent posting on the theme, different style and keys so I guess ok).

I think that is me done for the month.

All the best

Okay, inspired by the singing and playing thread, here's a Stephen Foster song, "Hard Times Come Again No More."  Singing and playing is not my forte, but I've been inspired to try.  It comes together around 1:46.   (:)

Only even been to USA twice - a musical odyssey Chesapeak bay - Apalation mountains - N Carolina - Nashville (for my companion  :Ph) - Memphis .. and I once won 2 weeks in San Francisco playing cards!

Mid West ... completely unexplored but thanks for the thought

This was a hard choice. I didn't realize that there were so many tunes that I could play until I had to make a decision. I finally settled on a tune that probably might have originated in France, travelled to islands in the Indian Ocean, and then somehow was picked up and played by musicians in Cajun country. Therefore, although it didn't originate here in the States, it was adopted, and well cared for. Although I'm not much at playing Cajun style, I do admire it, played here on the Weltmeister 4-stopper in C. It's a little mazurka called Chez Seychelles:

That was so cool  8) Didn't even realise they mazurka'd in the Saychelles. You'd have me on my feet playing that one.

Hmm.... The note lengths are totally mangled in bars 1, 3 and 5, because someone has gefurked the ABC syntax.  Where did you find it?

Here's a corrected version:
X:2
T:Sandy River Belle
M:4/4
L:1/8
K:G
DEGA B B3 | AGAB e2d2 | DEGA B B3 | AGAB ABE2 |
DEGA B B3 | AGAB e2d2 | degd eged | BGA2 G4 :|
|: g2gg edeg | b2bg agef | g2gg edeg | fefg a4 |
g2gg edeg | b2bg agef | degd eged | BGA2 G4 :|

Also, the two parts are generally played in the opposite order.

This ought to serve as a general warning that although there are now thousands of ABC files out there on t' interweb thingy, in my experience a good proportion of them are shot through with errors, sometimes due to bad ABC coding, other times because the notes are just plain wrong.

Use with caution!

One of the more reliable sources I think, but you still need to be aware of possible errors.

Folks: I just posted an American waltz on Onmvoice written by Noah Van Norstrand called Crown Point.  The transcription is mine so any errors belong to yours truly. I play a Saltarelle Swift BC button accordion, and my wife is playing a Roland FP8 digital piano.  I would appreciate any constructive criticism on my playing.  All the best Charlie

This is me playing along to my favourite Zydeco tune of the moment, I know it as The Ardoin Two step. The Original is by Chris Ardoin & Double Clutchin, but as with most Cajun & Zydeco there's variants of this tune all over the place.

Ian:  Nice playing on the Cajun accordion.  I recently saw a movie you might find interesting called "Schultz gets the Blues".  It is about a German oompah accordion player who hears a Cajun/Zydeco tune late one night on the radio and can't get it out of his mind. He learns it and plays it in competitions in Germany but no one cares for the piece except his close friends. Eventually he goes to the US in Texas and makes his way toward Louisiana with adventures along the way.  It is sometimes slow like Europeon films are, but I liked it. I can relate to being grabbed by a tune that won't let you go.  Charlie
