...It is about a German oompah accordion player who hears a Cajun/Zydeco tune late one night on the radio and can't get it out of his mind. He learns it and plays it in competitions in Germany but no one cares for the piece except his close friends.

sounds like my life last year!... i'll check it out
Thanks Charlie

Very nicely played Jack.. participially La Napolera... i've got this on some old Tejano compilation played much faster. But this is a much better speed for this tune.

I was going to do "waiting for the Federals" as a slow air (as played on John Spiers DVD) however I couldn't work out the chords for Part B >:(
As I had today off I decided to learn "the Tennessee Waltz" in stead

enjoy!

Very nicely done !
I was also learning Tennessee Waltz and Missouri Waltz as well ( almost a lullaby ! and requires some accidentals)

I just spotted this.  Thanks!  It's a fun tune to play and should fit on a standard 2 row (with accidentals) too.

I was inspired by Tennessee waltz submission to submit another waltz  from USA - Missouri Waltz
It is still January where I live in Canada.

Oh well, better late than never:

http://www.onmvoice.com/play.php?a=39560

Amy Cann's Catharsis, my current favourite tune on the box.  Others seem to have stuck to the original key of Gm, but I've found it easier in Am, to get the bass rhythms.

Steve, I've got a sneaking suspicion that those runs may be a bit easier on the fiddle than it is on the box!  They do seem to play it at breakneck speed, all of them, don't they?

the second part is one of the most awkward, brain-frying things I have attemped

Yes, I agree, this merits further comment:  I have to say that this was the main initial problem for me in playing this.  My solution, which I understood more about as a result of learning this tune, was to think in terms of chord accompaniments and rhythm first - so if you take the B-music run of Am G F Em Em/D, I tried to use buttons mainly in the same direction for each chord - so pull for Am, push for G, pull for both F and Em,  Then I realised that I was running out of bellows because of all the pulls, and I needed some pushes to allow enough time for the air button.  Luckily the D at the end allows this, if you deliberately use pushes on those notes.  So I now find the staccato 'all one direction' bits easy, it's the transition bits that cause me most problems.

I'm now trying to learn new tunes in these terms first - so I try to fit the phrases either to a 'chugga chugga' pattern, or to staccato playing of all pulls or all pushes.  One-row players seem to develop the opposite technique of giving equal prominence to pulls and pushes, whereas many CBA players smoothe everything out into long pulls or pushes to avoid having to throw a heavy instrument around.  My idea is to try to use the best of both worlds in a sort of middle ground approach, and I think I probably like Catharsis because it's turned out to be a successful example, for me.

A late entry for this category, combined with an entry for this month's Tune of the month, as they are two versions of the same tune.

A transatlantic effort, here's an American tune that's sung to an English text... No text here, however.

Marching to Zion, by Robert Lowry (1826-1899): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lP1-w4jlzCc

Played on a Dino Baffetti Binci 3-voice
