JTS microphones
« on: June 05, 2008, 07:56:53 PM »

Has anyone come across these?  JTS do a gooseneck clip-on condenser mic for woodwind and they also now make an accordion mic of the type that slots into a plate which is screwed or stuck to the instrument.  Either type can be supplied with mini XLRs which fit a little battery box of the same make.  See the mics at http://www.jpleisure.co.uk/cat66_1.htm  Any expert opinions welcome.

I use a JTS CX508 condenser mic on a gooseneck for my left hand, clipped onto the strap:

Works fine, easy to move from one box to another, but needs phantom power -- not an issue with most decent mixers.

The problem with mics like this on the treble end is uneven pickup along the keyboard, they're not far enough away to get equal volume for each note -- if mounted on the top of the box the higher notes are much quieter than the middle/lower ones, if mounted on the front the middle notes are louder than the bottom/top ones.

Cheers

Interesting! What do you use on the treble end Ian?

Looks good and the price is right.

I notice  that it shows: Output connector: XLR(M) type

Is that a special XLR plug and do you need an adaptor to connect to standard XLR phantom power on the desk?

A conventional mic on a short stand, about a foot away from the box. Nice even pickup, I can move towards or way from it as needed, and can move right off-mic when twiddling (how does that tune go, Ian?)

Cheers

Ian

P.S. The connector is a standard XLR, but it's a bit large because the electronics are inside it. One pain is that the outside of the plug is slightly bulbous, and it won't plug all the way in to most stage box or mixer sockets, I have to use another XLR lead in between. Why they made it this why I have no idea...

Thanks for that, all.
This is to mic up the Verde Cork, Rees.  According to the JTS rep, the mics can be supplied with standard XLR connectors or mini XLRs to fit the battery power supply box, which can be seen at
http://www.jpleisure.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?page=search&SS=JTS+PS-500&PR=-1&TB=A

The CX508 is the clip-on woodwind mic.  Their new accordion mic is CX516.
In the meantime, I got away with using 2 stand mics at a ceilidh on Saturday.

Thanks Chas.
Now then, do you know anything about the wireless version?
Apart from the obvious melodeon application our steel vested rub-board player in Joe le Taxi likes to dance about when she's playing so a wirless clip-on would be ideal.
You can see her in action with The Pineleaf Boys here:www.joeletaxi.co.uk

Nothing, I'm afraid, beyond what it says on the maker's site
http://www.jts.com.tw/_english/02_products/03_detail.php?MainID=3&SID=19&ID=118
wasn't there a thread last year which referred to the potential problems of radio mics?

Sadly, the clip doesn't seem to be available any more.
Enjoyed the music though!

That's Wilson Savoy (son of Marc) on fiddle with Cedric Watson on accordion.
