It's on a C/G box so comes out in G not D.

What are the chords for this tune on a DG or ADG melodeon? Thank You for the help!

IMHO, they're something like:

First part:
D///|DCG/|D///|D///|D///|DCG/|D/A/|D///
Second part:
D/A/|D///|D/A/|D///|D/A/|D///|C///|G///

Where '/' means the same as the previous chord.

It's obvious from the early recordings that some people will play very different variations to this. My advice would be to break the tune down into bits and see which bass notes/chords you like the sound of for each bar or phrase. Best of luck.  (:)

Here's my attempt - which may or may not use the chords I set out above!   :-\  You'll see I'm playing it on my Salterarelle D/G, primarily on the 'D' row.

A real variation with the deeper setting ... and delightful bounce and joy as well. Lovely.

Thank you for the chords. When I have the chords for the bars/measures, I will build the push-pull sequences and fingering of the tune for the chords. I think the great melod-ian of this forum wrote somewhere earlier last year, that for him a tune is a pattern of chords and the melody is build upon this chord foundation, or something like that. On an accordion with unisonoric basses (I have an increadible powerful CBA), I learn the tune first and then I can apply any chords later. On a diatonic box, however, I have to know in advance what chords I want to play before elaborating the fingering. Of course, this problem does not exist on a single row melodeon. I am just a beginner and maybe I am writing silly ideas.

OK, embarrassing confession time.  When I looked tunes for this month, I followed the link to Anahata's video, liked the tune that I heard being played, then voted for "Dark Girl".  It's only when I saw Andy's submission that I realised he was playing something completely different and that I hadn't actually read what Clive had originally written (i.e. it's was the second tune on the recording).  So, I voted for a tune I'm not sure I'd ever even listened to.

So, I started to learn the actual "Dark Girl" tune last night, only to find I didn't really know what to do with it.   So, I figured I try recording it a couple of different ways and see how it turned out.  Not surprisingly, it ain't great, so I'll probably try making a better one when I've practiced it a bit more.  I liked the way the camera angle worked, though, so for that reason alone, I thought I'd post it anyway, even if I do leave it there only for a short while.

EDIT:

<<The video's gone.  I should have waited before making a recording.  It really bugs me when I can't/don't keep time.  :( >>

I didn't know Dark Girl ... before this month, but it's been enjoyable to learn and try some developments.
Here's my version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qwDJFo5Wik

I've been playing with a piper recently, so that gave me the inspiration for the first time through.
The second section is inspired from the bass options learned from Saul Rose at Witney this year.
Third section I went for minors - it gave a different feel entirely (which I then OTT'd with Gverb - I'm sure not to everyone's taste, but an interesting experiment!)
... and finally back to the bouncy version to finish.

(despite the audio break before the final change, it was all done in one take - it's the audio-editing later that put a hole in it  ::))

That's really nice!
I like that version of the tune, and putting the dots up on the video is a brilliant idea.

Brill, it is musical art. I really like the first droned version with slight dark change of melody. Reverb is almost psychedelic  8)
and did you learn those transitions from Almo  ???  or not WMM.

thanks
