LDT, if you wish to learn Jiggery or Jump at the Sun, or something else that inspires you then I would be happy to put a close video for the phrases using the accidental.

That would be great Sandy. :)

You have my admiration Sarah... it would have been all too easy to sink to the depths of those who sought to criticise.
Keep those thought provoking questions coming
(I thought the strange high notes were so that we could mimic the emergency services' sirens ::) ...accidentals :P

At some stage I'd like to tweak my box making a 4th button start, but keep the accidentals
Here's Lesters 4th start layout.  His web site is not yet listed under 'Shops & repairs'  Should be (:)

N.S.A. Thank you for that.
Lester was one of the main people in my previous thread when this was discussed, so have a version from him, Anahata and Theo for 4th Button low note start.
Am still ruminating on it, but it does appear sensible to me. I currently need to get on with what I've got and get some more tunes under my belt before making any solid decisions.
thanks for your thought

I think I'm starting to get most of the notes in roughly the right order...... sometimes!

Sandy - is that their normal layout, or are you currently selling one  ;)

I have to be *very careful* or I could succombe to MAD.....it appears to be very infectious  ;D
... and as said I have a very nice box and really need to learn how to play it before even considering other things.
'All the gear and no idea' might be true otherwise!

No problem, I'm hoping to do both today. (if I can convert/upload video quickly)

Both the Nuage and the Connemaras various have 4th button starts, Oh! and probably the Pasturelles.

I may well have a Connemara 3 for sale in the near future  >:E

Actually looking at my current bank balance, it's no probelm at all, just like my front room, nothing in it  ;D

Thanks for the abc's...... something to work on.

BTW, you'll never play Greensleeves without them...

Oh yes you can  >:E

Depends what Greensleves though, doesn't it... the Wyresdale version, the Henry VIII version, etc... One of the other stumbling blocks for certain versions on a stock Hohner D/G rig is the lack of low B (something I've tweaked/fixed on mine)...

My 'Rosetta Stone' tune for box testing and accidental facility (and brain 'hardwiring' ;D) on a 2 row D/G is Tip Top Polka Hornpipe... uses 3 out of 4 of them at least once... it can be learned/played (fudged ;D) initially very nicely without them, and then shunt them in once you know where they are/which way you're going.

The only real way to get this done (IMHO) is focussed practice, and subsequent familiarity... keep plugging at it, and it will 'click'. Just follow Mally's old maxim... practice, practice, practice.... and when you're absolutely sick of it... do some more practice! ;D

You could also just buy a Saltarelle Nuage  >:E

FWIW, a lot of the D/G 21 key Baffettis sold at Cleckheaton are also 4th start. But then again, the geometry/stretch on all of these is bigger than a mini size Castagnari... probably an idea to put the low notes on the bottom two... then the accidentals (retaining the usual 'Hohner' stretch)...

Eeejay: My version of the Tip Top Polka is a straightforward tune, though I'm aware of 'Tip Top' covering a multitude of tunes.
Any chance of dots or abc's to illustrate?
I suppose the Primrose Polka is one I should dig out and get going too....... so many tunes, so little hours of the day!

Agreed, practise and keep on hammering is the only way to become proficient.

And here... and here... :|glug

And the dots (with my usual accidentals) are here... (:)
