Swapping Reed Blocks
« on: June 26, 2008, 11:56:57 AM »

Morning All

A question (probably for Theo or Rees....or anybody more knowledgable than me!! i.e.anyone)

How easy/feasible would it be to swap the reed blocks from a 70s D/G Pokerwork to a 50s? Pressed wood c/f body with a rather lovely wooden fingerboard?

Any suggestions?  My current c/f of choice is a toilet seat grey de-clubbed IIB, perverse I know!!

Cheers

The blocks are the same basic dimensions, but there are some differences.  The most obvious are:

  • position of gasket. May be attached to sole of reedblock or soundboard.  You the same in your two swap partners
  • clamping arrangements.  Early boxes have a bent screw which clamps over the top of the block, later ones have a small steel plate held by a woodscrew which clamps onto a ledge or saw cut on the end of the block

You will need to have a look and see which types are in your boxes.
