Selling Stuff
« on: July 01, 2008, 08:29:44 PM »

Hi guys -
I can't see a for sale or classified section on this forum, and don't want to break any rules. I've got a couple of boxes for sale. Can I post them here??

Thanks!
Kris

Think this puts Theos argument into perspective?

Well it looks like Kris has been a member here since December last year.   Does the fact that he may be a man of few words but a regular reader, as I usually am with regard to this site, disqualify him from having access to the buy and sell forum?

Okay, I've obviously walked in halfway through a family discussion!

(By the way, I'm a she not a he.)

The melodeons (I have 3) I want to sell belonged to my late partner. That's not a sob story, just an explanation as to how I came by them. I'm a musician, but don't play the melodeon, and it's time these boxes found new homes.

Would it help if I posted some banal stuff about which box players I like, etc?

A straight and polite answer is all I seek. Or I guess I could sell these to Theo for less than the market value and he could mark them up.....

Best wishes!
Kris

  (snip)

__.  Hi, Kris.  There's discussion in the "Buy and Sell" forum about what qualifies a forum member to use the Buy and Sell forum but you can't see the Buy and Sell forum until you're qualified to use it.  Yeah, me too  ???

__.  Anyway, I gather by your use of the word "pahtnah" that you're in the UK.  That's good, most of the forum members are in the UK and it will be easier and cheaper to get a box sold since you're not looking at inexpensive shipping (or even a buyer pick-up) -- international stuff is much more complicated and expensive.

__.  Most of us are primarily interested in two-row instruments tuned in D and G - what keys are your instruments in?

__.  And welcome, even though we're coming from different places -- I tell people I'm *not* a musician, I play an accordeon.

Hi Bruce -
I figured the "secret" buy and sell forum must be where the "secret" discussion was being held (Not that I'm paranoid or anything!!)

I've got a Vignoni D/G, a Double Ray D/Eb, and a Regal D.

As the moderator of a forum, myself, (on a completely different specialist topic) I know that you do get a lot of strangers drifting through town just wanting to flog stuff. However, we have decided to take the attitude that if they're selling items our users are interested in (ie directly related to what we're about) then they are adding to the life and interest of the forum. (pant. pant. Whew have I said enough to be allowed to sell my stuff yet?)

So much for the "man of few words" theory...

Larry -
With my name I'm used to it. It's just amusing. sometimes - especially when people ring me and then ask if they can speak to "my husband" not knowing it's me they want!

No offence taken!

Ok, OK!  I appear to have misjudged this one.  Everything is now back the way it was, no more restrictions on Buy & Sell.  I had blocked access to those with less than 4 posts.  Now on looking at some membership stats I see that more than half the current membership has never posted, so that was not a very good idea.

All members and guest should now be able to see Buy & Sell, and all members can post there.  If that is not the case please email or pm me and I'll fix it.

And thanks from me, too, Theo! I moderate a forum (non musical) elsewhere, and I know it ain't easy!
