I have little or no information about the participants in this video. I suspect the melodeon player may be Arthur Raw but hope somebody might be able to assist with information or contact details for anybody who might assist. Please share the link with anybody who may have been a part of this.

There are three more dances recorded which I will upload in a while.

PS: Now done at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6wS49FiFCo (7.4.2011)

All the best

Bill

Left-hand end is Sue Jenkinson (the best clog teacher I ever met) and the right-hand end is Lynette Eldon. I know the faces of the other three but can't remember their names offhand.  No idea who the box player is, but Green Ginger used to be a cracking outfit specialising in Northumbrian style clog.  Haven't seen or been in touch with any of them for years, sadly.

I've never heard of them, but a quick google search gave me this page with Pete and Rosie Fletcher. Rosie seems to have been a Green Ginger Clog dancer and Pete has a similar hairstyle as the melodeon player in the video.

Yes, I think the Melodeon player is me :||: - it's so long ago!!
The box is a Hohner Erica.
The dancers are (L>R)
Sue Jenkinson,
Leslie Tempest,
Rosie Fletcher,
Sandra Dawson,
Lynette Eldon,
The dances were made up from (mostly) traditional steps and the titles were just the wherever they were first danced out.
Hence, Felixtowe H/P was written for that festival and the Loughbrough Waltze was written for the National.
Great times!

I recall you all well from Whitby - super team. We'd plan our programme to see Green Ginger. Welcome.  Another Melnet missing person triumph is noted (and was how I started)!   Is 23 hours 2 minutes and 32 seconds a new record?

Me too - never missed a Green Ginger workshop. What was the name of the dark-hared girl who used to share the teaching with Sue & Lynette? I recall she came from further north - maybe Teeside or Wearside, or maybe even Tyneside?

They came down to I think it was to at least 2 of our Great Western Whit Tours, the last in 1990.
Pete, if I remember correctly, you couldn't make it for some reason so our musician stood in?
Always wonderful to watch, and the best cloggers I've seen, and totally laid back to boot!
Pete - if still in touch, give Sue my warm regards please.

Graham,
It was Rosie, my better half, who assisted Sue and Lynette at workshops, though all the team helped out really.
No longer quite so dark haired I'm afraid but still dancing now and again.

Q,
Yes, can't remember why but I did miss one of the tours but was certainly there for at least one other.
I see Sue most weeks and will pass on your best wishes.

Green Ginger as a team disbanded some time ago but most of the members are still dancing on and off. Sue and Lynette are still teaching the odd workshop.
We did have a reunion a couple of years ago to celebrate the Green Ginger MORRIS forty year celebration, the girls danced as well as ever!!
It was Frank Bull who came up with the GG name when he formed the Morris team, and it was used (with their permission) by GG Clog, GG Garland (still dancing) GG Rapper, GG Mummers, GG Band (forerunner to Yorkshire Garland Band), GG Folk Dance Display team, GG Dwile Flonking Team etc etc etc.
The name comes from a street in Hull called The Land of Green Ginger which is just round the corner from the Blue Bell which was the home of Folk Union One which was the Waterson's home club for many years.

As mentioned above, Rosie and I now play with the White Horse Ceilidh band and help to run the White Horse Folk Club in Beverley.

My sincere apologies for forgetting her (and your) name; please pass on my enduring thanks for GG's patience and inspiration in their Whitby workshops.  However, the girl I'm thinking of was rather shorter than Rosie - about Sue's height (or maybe a little less) and, if I remember correctly, the holder of several clog-dancing titles in the North-East. I last saw her at a Billy Bragg/Oysterband concert somewhere in North London about half a lifetime ago.  May have been the Rainbow - though it could have been somewhere rather smaller.  Any road up, I owe a lot to GG and to Sue in particular - so thanks all and have a beautiful rest of your lives.

Thanks for posting the videos, great fun and a trip down memory lane.

A few points leading on from there -

It's a superb example of how to play a box for dancing,

If you get chance to see Jim and Lynette Eldon don't miss it
and
Frank Bull was one of the earlier popularisers of playing the Anglo (pre-Kirkpatrick).  Wrote an article for EDS sometime in the mid-sixties about how to play for morris.

Graham,
Jane Metcalfe.
She won the Northern Counties Championship Belt at least once as did Lynette.
Also won at Fylde if I remember.
