how about we keep it simple.  Wednesday  afternoon in the Elsinor, Flowergate. from 1.30 onwards composed of whover is there at any given time!  The elsinore is usually relatively quiet early afternoons but busies up around tea time.  I don't think we need to make any prior arrangements with the pub as it is a pub and we are public. They advertise themselves as being 'the musicians pub  and will no doubt benefit from the beer and butties that we  buy.

Unless opinions to the contrary are expressed ( together with other arrangements)I will be there from around 1.30pm on the wednesday and will arrange for it to be advertised in the whitby wailer ( the festival daily news sheet.

Feel free to suggest  AND ARRANGE something different! ;D

In the programme the Elsinore has an ad. saying "Don't miss Lunchtime Legend, Wednesday afternoon". Perhaps another day at the same venue?

from your post last year george:
"the elsinore is not (i.e. in previouos years) a programmed venue  but is the home of an exellent  spontaneous musicians session every evening.  It is normally pretty quiet in the afternoon from around 2 to 5  exept on , I think, wednesday when there is a arock & roll session!
lunchtime & going well into afternoon"

Would we be better with a different time and a different day?

Quite right Malcolm. I completely forgot about the lunchtime  rock & roll stuff which has been in the elsinore on wednesday for many years.  I   therefore suggest we gather in the Elsinore from around 1.30 om on the THURSDAY - any takers!

That's VERY tempting George. I'm not actually going to the Folk Week - can't afford it, but a day trip up there is possible from deepest Derbyshire.

I'll get if I can.

PS: Couldn't we persuade the R&R session to play in melodeon friendly keys?

;D got the programme last week and there's a separate events listing with it ...... but it's in very small print on blue paper so anyone without 20/20 vision will need a magnifying glass or an enlarged photocopy  ;D

Last year we had an A4 poster that was kindly dispalyed on a couple of 'box-friendly' trade stalls, including Theo's. If something similar was wanted again, I'm pretty sure I could find last year's and use it as a template.

I think last year, I emailed it out as a pdf and some kind soul, with the necessary hardware, printed and laminated it, before it went up on the stalls.

oh dear  I wont be able to make it - nor your slow and steady sessions George, as the workshops for playing in a ceilidh band are on at the same time

have a good time  :'(

and yes I agree about the printing in the programme  ..............speaking on behalf of the visually impaired, ( ie getting on a bit!!)  I understand that there is so much information it needs to be small print, but black on white is much easier to read

Count me in, althought I am sorry to hear you won't be there Lin. (The playing for ceilidh band workshop does sound very tempting)  One of my favourite bits of last years festival was watching/attempting to play along with Derek in this session so I am a sorry you can't make it either.

Having missed out on Sidmouth this year, I am hoping to make it to Whitby if my wife's health has improved sufficiently by then. So I may see some of you at the melnet session and at various other sessions during the week.

looks as if there  there may be one or two of us in the Elsinore on Thursday afternoon! Maybe a few 'non melnet'  (as yet!) box players who  will read the notice in the daily newssheet etc.

Just  ins case anybody thinks otherwise its not a DG gathering, although no doubt they will be the majority -  all sook an blow  boxes of whatever tuning ( and their  owners) will be most welcome.
