Some irish accordion players

Hi guys.

I would like to know your impressions around these two accordion players from Ireland.

The first is Christy Leahy, the leader of the band from Cork "North Cregg". Christy is a friend of mine and my first teacher.

The second is Edward Breen and his sister Tara.
A little history... this summer I was in Ennis and I goes to a session with the fiddle teacher of my wife.
The teacher present to me the accordion player and... o my God... I've seen you when you are a little boy! Oh... yes... says Edward to me... you have found the my video on Youtube...
Edward now are 23 years old... but isn't changed!

Thanks for those clips, Silvio. I'd love to hear the Breens now. I wondered whether the kids in the classroom had a deep understanding and appreciation of their folk culture, or were just well drilled for the TV shoot!

I have a North Cregg record from a few years ago. It has one fiddler, banjo, piano and snare drum on it - not mad about the full drum kit on this clip. But I enjoy the band's good-humoured and occasionally tongue-in-cheek approach to their music and Christy is a great player.

Interesting to see a Kincora and a Gaillard one after the other like that. Outwardly at least, the design of the Kincora boxes seems to be closely modelled on that of Gaillards. Might as well emulate the best, after all...

As I was actually in the audience at the concert when this clip was filmed I would say that Christy and North Cregg are excellent  :)

Irish reels, yes... but with a marked English accent!

Someone has posted some very enjoyable clips of De Dannan (1980 and 1983) with Jackie Daly on C#/D box. The first (and best) of these is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUnSUfw0WGc&feature=related. They are playing aboard a Galway hooker (a type of sailboat, please note) whizzing around in a ripping breeze. The other clips posted by the same user are a lot of fun, too.

Tim looks as if he is enjoying himself too!

But its a D/G - just goes to show its the player that makes the difference, more than the instrument or system.  Ah well, better do some more practice :(

I've know Tim for some time, and played with him shortly a few weeks back.

It is D/G, but he's switching over. He used to play B/C (and yes, he was good at it, Castagnari DinnII), but now he's got a D/D# DinnII he's playing both in normal keys and in flat keys. But he's looking for a more powerful C#/D for session use.

The Nuage he's playing there is real tatty and battered, but it plays great, though. Real nice action, so it's easy to make those fast single note triplets.
