Judging by the way you danced at that practise - it'd be a cert!

This will be my first Sidmouth and I'm trying to work out what's what. Any hints as to potential sessions which won't be flyaway fast?

Thanks in advance.

I was also going to ask for recommendations for sessions, mainly suited to English melodeon. Also, perhaps, where not to go - eg if it is primarily Irish or fast.

And are we still on for the melnet session in the Sailing Club on Monday afternoon?

Any particular time? It's in my diary, so there ought to be at least two of us.  :-*

I would be interested to know too. Did go last year but only managed to get to the periphery of one session. Very nice but didn't know many tunes or keys  :o  This year I'll have free time to session around ....another Hurrah !

cheers

Whey, I'm now coming!  ;D I'll be arriving and able to go and do stuff from around 4pm on Monday. I'll make my way straight to the Sailing Club once I've got my things sorted at the cottage.

Looking at the back of the programme re venues, it says the following about playing sessions:
Sailing Club from 8pm each day
Anchor - main bar at street level
Radway - English music lunchtimes and evenings

Any more melodeon friendly venues/times?

I'll be there all week with my family. We will all do John K's Big Band workshop each morning. I've done it on flute in previous years but this year I am going to try it on my new Sandpiper melodeon. These workshops are always good value, doing just four or five tunes in some depth, which should give me a chance to start getting my fingers round the notes.

Other than that, I'll be going to as many melodeon workshops as I can fit in, beginner or improver, and as many sessions at the Radway as I can manage too. The rest of my family will be doing fiddle-y things most of the time. There's something for everyone!

I'd love to join in a melnet session too :-)

Will you have your PA too, Sandy? Would be nice to swap some tunes at some point during the week. I've enjoyed some nice, varied sessions at The Swan too.

Not sure which Sandy in the quotes you are asking, but if it is me, then no unfortunately I will not have my PA, just my trusty session Pokerwork - it is just too much to carry and keep secure.

PS: Thanks for the tip about The Swan.

Edit - sorry, Parkwood, just connected that we were discussing accordions on another thread. Hope to see you there - I am down Friday evening to Monday evening.

The Radway often has good English (or to be more accurate, non-Irish) sessions lunchtime/afternoon.

I'll be there on the first Saturday (and maybe Sunday) along with various other reprobates, including half of what was the Committee Band. Probably with the Preciosa as well as my Oakwood, in case anyone fancies a tootle.

Ian

P.S. We're playing the first Friday LNE should anyone fancy a bop :-)

London and North Eastern? Have we turned into a Steam Railway forum?  >:E Seriously - I've put The Radway on my "Must visit" pubs next week. Thank you IanD!

Sorry to have missed the recent contributions to this thread. My wife and I set off for Sidmouth last Saturday.....and arrived back this afternoon! Unfortunately, she is unwell, so we have had to return home so that she can receive medical treatment. No Folk Week for me this year!

Can I remind melnetters that, in addition to the Radway, there is also a good English session (well, mainly English) in the Sailing Club every evening from 8.00 p.m. led by the Loose Knit Band (minus one of its members  :'().

With regard to the melnet session in the Sailing Club on Monday afternoon, I see no reason why it can't still go ahead. It would be good manners for somebody to ask Kaz (the stewardess of the Sailing Club) for permission, although there should be no problem because she said last year that they were happy to have us there.

To all melnetters going to Sidmouth, have a good time and, God willing, I shall see you there next year.

Sorry to hear that Bob - what a shame, we'll miss you. Hope your wife is on the road to better health again soon.

I really must try and make it to the Sailing Club one evening this year...

I'll be at the radway on Saturdday, probably watching in awe IanD do his thing. Hopefully Ralphie Jordan will be as well as I have some music for him.
DTN will be there as of Monday.......i think.

Good LNE on Friday night, not perfect but lots of nice comments.

Got to the Radway 11am on Saturday.

Left the Radway 11pm on Saturday.

Total break time, 10 mins for a Chinese takeaway.

Then played for Smiffs dancing out on Sunday, then 2 entries in the jig competition, then the annual Smith and Western faceoff outside the Anchor, then drove home (or to be more accurate, Hilda did).

Why do my hands hurt this morning?

Now off to the US for a meeting, back on Thursday, then another Panjandrum gig next weekend -- this is all too much fun for one week <sigh>
