Tune of the Month for June 2011 - Lemmie Brazil's No.2
« on: June 01, 2011, 01:24:42 AM »

We have another worthy winner, a cracking hornpipe that fits on a 1 row melodeon *so* well, Lemmie Brazil's No.2 (there is also a No.1, of course, but it's not as well known as this, and not quite such a classic).

Courtesy of tallship, here's an ABC:

and courtesy of Lester and fiddlingpea, here are a couple of decent melodeon recordings:

Off we go!

Cheers,

Clive

PS: One request - can people clearly state what box they are playing; this helps Lester catalog the 'All the performances' pages more easily.

Hohner 4 stop melodeons in CGCGD respectively. Sketches from Suffolk. (With a typo in the title and a few slippery steps).

I had  some fun along the way.

Here's my offering for this month's Tune of the Month. I thought it was only right to play Lemmy Brazil's No.1 before No.2. It's played on my Saltarelle L'Elfique. These tunes are just made for the melodeon (literally I suppose). So glad this was the tune for this month. I knew No.2 already although had never played it on melodeon before. I had to learn No.1 which I'd only recently heard on the Banquet of Boxes played by Kate Howson. Took advantage of the rare sunny afternoon in our part of the world and I was relieved that no massive war planes flew over whilst I was recording as they are wont. Sorry about the looming leg in the picture - I was perched on the arm of a wooden bench in the garden.

Thanks, Andrew. Great playing, absolutely rock steady! I love the little subtle variations you bring in to it and the Zero Sette sounds very rich and full.

This month I haven't the time to prepare an arrangement of the ToTM since I am off to Rennes, France tomorrow for ten days of research (and maybe some melodeon shopping :), followed by lots of final examinations. But my contribution satisfies both ToTM and ThOTM: my wife accompanies me on her new banjo.  ;D

After watching Mcgroogers version of No 1 and 2, I was inspired to learn both and have a go at putting them together. So, here's my attempt - certainly not as consistent as Mcgroogers, and with extra clackety-clack, but two great tunes which were fun to learn and I hope to play in many sessions to come...

Welcome and nicely played! The first tune is the College Hornpipe, another cracking tune indeed.

Cheers,
