After following the website for about three months, in an effort to teach myself how to play the melodeon (after teaching myself the P/A for about 8 months), I have finally put up a TOTM. This is the first song that I can really play on the box... my goal was to put both hands together and make as little mistakes as possible.

So, 1,323,593 tries later, here is my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awacM4Gy7nc

Ladies and gentlemen, your comments are the only ones that I have, please take a look and help me out!!

thanks,

That is pretty impressive for just 3 months learning on melodeon. You are accurate and have a good sense of rhythm, and you settled down well when you got the left hand going. Good stuff. Hope you plan to keep playing the PA as well; it is perfectly possible to continue both streams, and indeed you can bring better expression to your PA by being aware of what the melodeon gives you almost naturally (but you do have to work at it).

This month I haven't the time to prepare an arrangement of the ToTM since I am off to Rennes, France tomorrow for ten days of research (and maybe some melodeon shopping :), followed by lots of final examinations. But my contribution satisfies both ToTM and ThOTM: my wife accompanies me on her new banjo.  ;D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oa5nefNVATI

I was out walking Molliethecollie this morning and, not surprisingly considering how many times I've heard it and played it this month, LB No.2 kept going round my head...with the banjo 'ploing' at the end of each phrase - I really couldn't get it out of my head. So thanks so much for this - I think!   ;D

Thanks Sandy! actually, I have noticed an improvement in my P/A playing already... i guess playing a song on both instruments really makes it sink into my head why each note is in the place where it belongs, which obviously will start helping me being more creative and fluid with my playing... have you put in your totm yet?

thanks!! i try desperately to play with other people. accordion sessions in Eastern spain might be tought to come by though. i found a friend that plays the guitar and we put together a short song for the ThOTM, but he´s more of a flamenco / rumba player... it's tough to find a song that works for both of us!!

Here's my recording for this month, played on my outdoor box and with just two chords in the manner of a one row. (but I did slip in an A with the D chord across on the G row second time through).

Many thanks, all, for the positive comments; I am encouraged to do more.

Yes, the Liliput was originally an Eb/Bb. I was advised at the time that the Eb/Bb was the best for converting to D/G as there was less work to be done on the reeds than if starting with a C/F. I think I was also lucky with the intrinsic sound of the individual instrument, and Mike R's sensitive matching of tremelo tuning to that.
The deed is done of course, but wondered whether you were at all tempted to stay with the original for song accompaniment?

I actually listened to that one before, i just didn´t realize it was yours. Very very well done. I think that is the "correct" version of this song!!

It had to be DG for the bulk of my requirements, and I don't do much singing accompaniment, but if I could have every melodeon I would ever want then one would certainly be an Eb/Bb just for the richness of tone, and the freshness on the ear of the unfamiliar keys.

Super stuff and a great way to compare melodeons, that one row has a great honk!

Given the short amount of time you've been playing this is excellent, particularly after you get the bass end going. The occasional errors do nothing to mask the musicality that's so obviously there, I'm looking forward to watching you 'grow' over the coming months.

Pete.  ;D
