Da Vinci accordion
« on: June 03, 2011, 08:57:14 AM »

Searching for Michele Sangineto's bowed psalteries I stumbled upon this accordionish instrument after plans of Da Vinci. Couldn't find it on youtube.

I think at that time the regal was still huge compared to this thing. I guess Da Vinci was one of the first to come up with a portable accordion-type version (though strangely he used organ pipes instead of the more convenient reeds of the regal). There's also a picture of Sangineto's son playing it, but I'd love to see a video.

When French sentences get over a line long ... there is generally a high 'fluff' content and that seems the case here. It is beautiful.    So this is a piece of French "art" - albeit Italian. That handy  'news' (!) clip seems to be a different incarnation of Leonardos ideas,  and about as good in a musical sense as his screw was at flying.

He did do a very good 'Mona Lisa' though  ;)
