Uploading to YouTube
« on: June 10, 2011, 09:16:09 PM »

I have finally signed up to YouTube and am trying to upload my first video file of about 222Mb. It says it is to take about an hour. Is this normal, or should I have compressed the file first by some means, or is it just a busy time of day for the net (9:15pm Friday)?

222mb is waaaaaaaaaay too big a file in my experience. Can I suggest that you edit the film via something like Windows Movie Maker and then save it in a more compressed format before trying to upload it?

Wot Al said.
I make mine about 1000k-1500k/sec (I can dial up video compression to a bit rate or a file size) MP4. The file is about 30-50MB.  It comes out of the camera about 220MB. That's 720p which is quite high resolution - when it's shrunk down to 360 or 480 it's quite sharp enough. On 720p at full screen (1920x1080) you can see it's a bit fuzzier than the original but it's quite good enough.

I'd use 640x480 originals but YT mangles the sound horribly - unless they've changed that - I might try it again some time.

I also tried loading full files directly into youtube to  begin with - but very high quality result - it took many hours (despite a v big hi-speed broadband capacity). Which is why windows moviemaker  is quicker.
Are you on mac or pc - if pc which system XP or...

have a look here - takes some time to get used to the wrinkles. not easy to understand the cutting and deleting sections for example - not much logic in the process

If that fails advise by pm and I will do you  a little list of tips which may save you hours hunting around web and having to redo and redo etc.
