Hi Eric.
There's a lovley tune we use as a final waltz with our band. Don't know if it has a real name, but everyone I know calls it "Sailing By" It is played on BBC radio 4 every night at about 00:45 (Don't know what that would be local to you..) just before the shipping forecast, which is a sort of coded weather frecast for the seas around Great Britain. You should be able to hear BBC Radio 4 here ==> http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/radio4fm Remember, you'll need to tune in at about 00:40 and listen for a few minutes until it comes on. Sorry, but I don't do dots or even ABC - only play by ear..

Pete
If you look on the BBC Shipping Forecast page, it says at the bottom:

The music played before the Shipping Forecast is 'Sailing By' composed by Ronald Binge. Unfortunately, the version of 'Sailing By' we use is not available commercially. However, a similar recording, featuring the late Ronnie Aldrich on the piano, has been issued by: Seaward Records Ltd, Strathallan Castle, Port St Mary, Isle of Man. The tune is also available on a CD, 'The Music of Ronald Binge', from Marco Polo Records, number 8.223515.

There's even a Sailing By wiki page with an audio clip  :)

Lester,  the sound lantern recording is just the ticket.  I am extra grateful that you recorded the tune for nearly 4 minutes.  The length is needed so that the tune has a better chance of getting in my ear and under my fingers as I try to play along.  And by the way...very well played.
Thank you, Eric in Montana

The recording comes from a CD my, then morris side, Grand Union Morris did more years ago than I care to think about and was just lurking in my iTunes library.

I'm a relative newcomer to playing but a couple of waltzes I like playing are Michael Turner's (G), and The Sherborne Waltz (Orange in Bloom) (D).  The latter can be played across the rows.  Lovely Nancy is also a nice little tune (G) that is often played with Michael Turner's.  I'm also learning the French Assembly which is another nice tune in (G).  Hope this helps.

I'm curious about The Aran Boat song.  I've heard and like the tune but I can't find any dots for it.  Have you found it anywhere.
