UK Folk Music - New Website
« on: June 17, 2011, 04:27:23 PM »

New Folk Music WebsiteHello fellow squeezers,

I'm currently working on my new folk music website and adding loads of things to it. Today, I have submitted it to Google and if all goes to plan it should be searchable pretty soon, and hopefully high in the Google Search. ( My kitchen design websites were high up - so no reason why this wouldn't be...)

There is a section on there for trade contacts / links and I have already added mel.net people to it (just put me on commission..... ;) )

If anyone else wants me to add a link to the site please let me know.  Link exchanges are always welcome too..

I'm looking at the possibility of adding 'artist pages' if the site does well in Google - it could be more effective than having your own web page, but that well down the road yet.

The addy is at www.ukfolkmusic.co.uk there is a lot to do with the site yet, but I'm spending some time on completeing pages.

Cheers

Alan

Tut tut - you have a typo on your front page!  ::)

"Hugh and Me
Hugh and Me, are Hugh Stewart and Alan Morley - a duo of multi-instrmentalist / vocalists based in Derbyshire."

Apart from that it looks very promising  :D

It's been corrected, I'm never very good on keyboards...thanks for the notification. I usually type Hugh as Huge too.....or Hue..Hew..

The site was conceived as a contact point for the duo - but I'm happy to expand it to other things if all looks OK.

Thanks for the feedback Lester - I'll have a look at that - I might change the links to white - with a different roll-over colour.

As for your link - you are very welcome - It might bring something your way, I'm hoping for a lot of hits - the domain name is a highly Googled phrase.

I think it's looking really good, Almo. You can add our ceilidh band site if you wish with pleasure. Not that we need much of a boost in our bookings - some of us are getting to the age where the doctor's likely to say 'Don't buy any long playing records' let alone accept bookings a couple of years ahead!  ;D

One thing I have noticed with the website is - the mp3 which I have uploaded to my little bit of the site, sound a lot better than on MySpace or YouTube.

http://www.ukfolkmusic.co.uk/hughandme.html

I always suspected that MySpace and YouTube compressed files and degraded the quality.

Looks lovely  :D

... content is the essence  :|glug
Thanks Chris - the content will be the hard part for me.
As I said the original idea was really just a contact page / shop window for my own personal musical activities, but now I would like to expand the idea and make the site something interesting across a greater range. There are a lot of sites out there for 'folkie things', it's how to make it 'interesting' and 'different' and helpful, that is the challenge.

Many other sites have great content that I couldn't dream of replicating - so I'll be setting up as many links to the best one's which I find.

Still - early days and things will change (as they do)...lol a Mike Harding poem....Page layouts need to be looked at as contect expands, I'm trying to make things easy to locate.

I'm impressed Alan, it looks really professional, and manages to be 'folky' as well.

I wish you every success.

Hmm, there's not a really good searchable site about UK morris that I can recall............?

Thanks Chris - the content will be the hard part for me.

Hope springs eternal. In another life I play cards. 13 years ago I got into web mastering (I'll never make bridge 'Grand Master' ;)) and needed a focus for my site. I chose 'weak two bids' (the technicalities don't matter) and gathered together what I could. My own presentation wasn't a patch on yours but these were the days of hand coding.

Point is - provided the site is current and useful - people send you stuff all the time. Email after email arrived from all over the world and over 5 years I went from 11 to about 60 listed styles, and even got referenced in a book! I suppose this reinforces my 'content is all' comment.  Good luck in your endeavour. Chris

another possible for you Alan

http://www.livingtradition.co.uk/festivals/festival-listing

Cheers Graham - all suggestions welcome.

I have just been setting up Twitter and YouTube links on my personal /duo page this morning two reasons 1) Pushing my duo 2) Example page for anyone wanting to be represented on the site. Just waiting for Google Search to kick in now, the Google tracking is working no so I know how many visits the site is getting - look quite promising so far.

I'm about to add a link to mel.net and other similar Forums

Thanks for the input

Hey, Cheers Garry

I still have loads to do as I sure you can tell, I keep having new thoughts on content and layout - Morris Dancing page might be next. First thing for today is to get a posters and handouts done in PDF's for my duo - we have a gig at the end of the week.
