No one told me this would happen. Don't tell me it's...

Hohneritis!  EEEK!

Lately I have noticed this little red spot on my wrist, just below my palm, developing into a hard little bump. It doesn't hurt or itch or anything, it's strictly a visual blemish. But it bothers me because I have no idea what it could be. Then I realized I've been playing my wife's C/G Hohner Morgane at least an hour a day for the last 9 months. On some tunes, when I have the bellows extended and reach for the F bass with my little finger, my arm is in contact with the edge of the bass box. The point of contact is right over a tendon and precisely where this little red bump is. My theory is the skin is getting pinched between the tendon and the hard wooden edge of the accordion. I think the spot is a callus forming, almost like a surfer's knot.

Do other Hohner players have this problem? How do you stop it and make it go away. Do you just ignore it, or is it to be considered a badge of hohner?
When other people notice, what do you say? Do you tell them it's some kind of rare disease you got on your last jungle expedition? Surely you don't tell anyone the truth, do you?

Badge of hohner.   ;D

I don't have the problem but I know people who do and they wear wrist sweatbands to cushion the sharp edge.

Good idea, Lester. I'll give that a try.

I have found a leather wrist strap to be the most effective protection.

when I was using a pokerwork as my main (only!) box I stuck a little yellow sponge on the offending corner with gaffer tape.  It didn't look pretty but it stopped the thing drawing blood!

Thanks, guys. All helpful comments, except for the boxing gloves. I've seen Sharon Shannon using that big sponge but something like that wouldn't suit my tough guy image. Maybe I could try stuffing the hem of my cape in there.

Clearly then, what you need is a desert camouflage pattern sponge.

I went down the pound shop and got a seat belt protector. One went around the strap and the other I velcroed to the box.

So I suppose it's no use telling you that when I had a melodeon with that defect, I used a slice cut off an old pair of tights, looped around my wrist to make a soft bandage? I mean, it doesn't have to be your own tights. It could be some tights you'd acquired from a female, maybe as some sort of trophy...?
Oh well, never mind, just a thought.
