Hello all
Here is my first TOTM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf0elT3Ge6Y

I've really enjoyed working this out and trying to find the harmonies.  I especially like the bit in the B music where (on a GD box) it goes  Em, Bm at the end of the phrase (My box is a tone lower, but I still pretend it's GD when naming chords and notes)

The varying interpretations already posted have been enjoyable and inspirational. I never knew that Hohners could sound so sensitive, as well as rhythmic

I've been playing so much more  since discovering Melnet...especially because of the links to the Youtube community of  players in UK, france, Belgium, Italy etc.  After years of belting things out to be heard with the pipes in our session, I can now sit and play gently in front of my camera. And my Loffet  sounds all the better for it.

Looking forward to next month's tune.

Hi,

That is very very nice and I guess it qualifies for both tune and theme of the month.

Hi folks - here's my take on Brighton Camp

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KnMvyAJtVQ

It's still in the same time signature, hasn't been minorised/murderised, and only has a few extra bars added here and there. I've been quite restrained for me  ;D

Played on the decidedly wonderful 12 bass Hohner Preciosa in Bb/Eb (so it comes out in Eb).

Cheers,

Clive

Glad that you liked my version, guys.  I loved the encouragements so much that I've made a couple more variations for fun. I'm a slave to ego, obviously.

But now it's back to proper (Belgian) music:

For anyone nearby, we have a French Session as part of the Bath Folk Festival on Sunday 14 August, 8-11  at "Banglo"  next to Green park Tavern, Bath.

And there's an English session for the Festival at the Royal Oak  this Thursday 11 August  8.30.

Fantastic! Loved them both. Certainly going to learn it as a mazurka. Thanks for these.  (:)

I have notes missing on my box for this tune... does the Lilly have fewer buttons than bigger boxes? I never counted really...just thought they were smaller.

Try starting higher up - gets a bit squeaky on a Lilly though.... ;)

;D My ears would fall off if i did that, LOL! I found it, just a bit differently than y'all probably do it. I think. I've never cared to check out if my layout is any different to that of other boxes. Well, at least I can play the tune, if I practice a bit.

Here's my offering of this month's tune -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6RpNK43c6I - a very straightforward version. It's the first vid I've put up of me playing my newly acquired Hohner D/G Pressed Wood, reconditioned by Mike Rowbotham, having succumbed to a mild case of MAD in the last few months (there's another Hohner on it's way from Theo soon!). Thought it was time I joined the in crowd and I must admit I'd forgotten just how addictive that Hohner sound can be! Funny old world isn't it - some of us are looking to get more and more sophisticated boxes and others are delving back into the old rough and ready sounds of years gone by! :||: ;D

I've put theme of the month and tune of the month into one video, as they are both quite short

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTdSjpSN4E4

The first one is the slow tune. "Polly Put The Kettle On", apart from being a children's song and also found as a reel is several northern dance tune collections, seems to have an alternate existence as a Scottish-style slow air...

Then Brighton Camp, played absolutely straight except for the duff notes  :|bl

Great!  It's great to hear this example of total clarity and rhythm. Thanks for posting.

You even manage to make the odd slip sound stylish, some player.

OK. Here's mine: http://flic.kr/p/acSysi

I know it's not up to the standard of many here but I can aspire! Only started learning this one this morning, so might post another later when I'm more fluent. If you get bored you can always play spot the musical instriment in the background.

Now updated with better version.

It ended a bit abruptly but I really liked that, well played.

For my tab of this please download the attached PDF (print out in colour!!).
Let me know what you think of the way I've done this.
Great job, Thank You! There must be some problem with the finger numbers: you cannot use both 1 and 5 when using only four fingers.
I'd definitely prefer, however, the "standard" format.
I made this (see the attached picture) with ABCEdit, which automatically calculated the button numbers for DG melodeon.
Here is the ABC source:
