C/F CDs?
« on: August 10, 2008, 10:47:51 AM »

OK Guys.

Now that I am just about to receive my first Melodeon {Hohner C/F}, here's a question for you.

Can you suggest any good CDs of good C/F players in action?

I have a head full of tunes already, but over here in 'Norn Iron' Melodeons are like Hen's Teeth, & C/F boxes are about as common as bearded ladies. So it'd be nice to hear what a C/F box can do, in the hands of an expert.

Also, are there any good C/F YouTubes I should be checking out?

Cheers

Probably not what you were looking for, but I like this one (Scottish Finlandaise), it sounds much better on a C/F than a D/G. It uses three out of the four accidentals you get on a standard two row box, and if it's a Hohner, they're all on the same row and in the same direction as the adjacent notes.

The box in this video is a G/C - the tune's way down in A minor, a fifth lower than what it'd turn out on a D/G.

As to C/F on YouTube... there's a number of Dutch players (who use C/F as 'standard') worth a look.

For starters, Mark Söhngen's channel is good - the clips on the Serenellini are in C/F, but there's some other nice stuff on there too.

Hey, thanks for that great link Ed.

Very tasty tunes there & I really like the sound of that Serenellini.

Aye Bill, great sound from that Accordeon & a good tune too.
It also led me onto this interesting clip with the 1st half of one Hornpipe & the 2nd part of another {Harvest Home}
