Come on Melnetters!
« on: August 16, 2011, 02:36:16 PM »

I'd love to see/hear more recordings put up on TOTM and ThOTM! It's interesting to read people chatting about instrument makes/layouts, teaching and learning etc. but it makes a lot more sense when you can see/listen to someone playing their chosen boxes and tune of the month is an ideal vehicle for this. A bit like 'putting a name to a face'. If I can cope with the technology, anyone can. I don't think it needs to be a polished performance (as you'll see from my Brighton Camp), just an opportunity to share. So come on you wallflowers! :||: :|||: ;D

August is a busy month for a lot of people...so sometimes it can be a bit quiet on the video front.
Personally I try to do my video as early as possible....then maybe go back later in the year with my more polished performance. ;)

Quite ;D I have realised that it has been months since I last did one, very remiss of me. Probably won't have time this month, but will definitely do one next month.

So come on you wallflowers! :||: :|||: ;D

The whole business of playing to a camera+mic seems so impersonal.  I'd much rather play with one or more other musicians where there can be some interaction, and play in the other sense.

Very happy for any passing melnetters to call in for a tune and a cup of tea.

This happened at the same time last year. As LDT says it's a busy time.
For me, with a day job, YouTube videos tend to get done at weekends, and my excuse for not doing any in July was two weekends in Canada and the rest of the time too busy with preparing for that, along with all the regular stuff that had to happen anyway.

Similar for many of us - we're away on holiday or at festivals more weekends.

Me too.....but it doesn't seem very likely in a Cypriot mountain village...... ;D

I have done any video for a while, although did a sound track for Brighton Camp on SoundCloud.
When I do a video I get carried away and lose a full day on multi-tracking stuff which take ages to edit together.

Most of my time for the last few weeks have been spent developing the website / Flickr / Twitter / Forum and networking on Facebook etc.

I could get into shooting video - someone on Facebook has asked if I'd do one for them...

I wasn't really commenting on the odd quiet month. I'm just hoping more peops will join in as I feel it helps us all to get to know one another better through seeing/hearing each other play. @Theo - I'd be more than happy to see a video of you playing with your band.  It doesn't just have to be just for us Billy Nomates!  ::) :'(

I think the logistics of recording or videoin a band could be even more time consuming!  I'd rather just be playing, like at the session at the Cumberlan Arms tonight. ;D

Now come to think of it I did use my phone to record a band that was put together for the Folkworks Summer School.  I'll check that and see if it might be worth posting.

I look forward to hearing 'Brighton Camp as played at the Cumberland Arms' tomorrow. I could record sound at a session with my la'al Olympus digital recorder - I'm sure a 'posh' phone will do just as well!  ;D

On the other hand it might be more tricky to capture a quick tune played slowly in a session as it's usually the other way round, init? >:E

Agree that August -- this August in particular -- is really busy.  Sometimes days go by and I find I haven't opened the melodeon!  Also, learning new tunes is kind of a commitment for me.  Only just performed Lemmy Brazil's in front of people for the first time this past weekend!

Still, I agree with Mcgrooger's premise:  we should be posting more.

I'm probably looking in the wrong place but has anyone posted a 'how to place a vid clip on youtube'.  I'm good on audio tech but singularly non techy on things like youtube.

Secondly I have a phobia about social networking sites (with good reason from what I read) so my first hurdle is I don't want to identify myself to an organisation like youtube.

Two separate issues I know with the first one being the easiest to overcome.

I have some great recently learned tunes that I'm quite keen to post without waiting for them to come up on TOTM, so I'll take that as positive encouragement.

If you look back, there are a lot of ToTMs and ThoTMs, going way back.  Many tunes would fit into one of those.  I keep adding to the "French Tunes" theme.  I notice Almo has, as well.

I occasionally look back on Tune of The Month for before I joined and fancy having a bash at a tune..not everyone joined at the start.
