Hi Doug - you use the same fingering / crossover as me...

Hi Alan,

I like this crossover, and use it quite a lot for the better basses.  It's not at all surprising I used it for this tune - it was your version I used to get it into my memory.  I hope you like my 'b' music version ;D

After watching all your videos it takes some courage to put my performance out in the world.
Having the strength of ten because my heart is pure, or more likely going where angels fear to tread:

This was my first attempt at playing for a camera and using basses.  The experience taught me a lot.  Basses are fun.  I play faster than I think I am when I'm under pressure.  Technique, technique, technique.  Keep the rhythm going no matter what.  In the end it was an enjoyable experience.  I've been playing for a couple of years, and self taught, so I'm eager for advice.

Just for the fun of it I also made this video of the same tune on the Northumbrian smallpipes.

I dont think I'd know where to start on a C#/D Box - I'd be tempted to play Irish tunes and forget the bass side - that's what guitarists are there for... ;)

The tune works great on the smallpipes - well played.

Great stuff folks - really enjoyed the last minute entries too! - now it's time to move onto the next challenge, The Cheshire Waltz! As always, if you haven't quite managed to record this in time, or if you've come to it much later, please feel free to continue posting versions of the Dark Girl Dressed in Blue here.

It took me a long time to find space in my schedule, but I have finally done it!

Here I arranged the piece for an assortment of instruments to accompany myself playing a Hohner G/C Merlin II.

I attach the MIDI file for those who wish to play along. (Just change .txt to .mid.)

If anyone is still interested after five months - I did post a downloadable version on Dark Girl Dressed In Blue on SoundCloud along with some other things.
