Here's a beginners version of "Hasty Money" from JK's English Choice. It took about 200 takes and lots of discussions about speeding up etc so I don't think it will get better.
I've not indulged in listening to any versions of this tune - played it purely from the notes - so i hope it's recognisable

Hi Larry, very observant, that is acoustic foam all around me, reason being that i recorded the video in the control room of my recording studio! which is an utterly dead space!, hence the need to put a little reverb on the track to naturalise the sound of the box which would have sounded awful without it!. i am fortunate that i have this facility available to me, and the space to fullfil it so that it does not infringe on any domestic harmony!, if you have a spare room at home you can solely use for your music, then treating it with the panels shown is a great way to achive a little privacy but it will not ultimately achive soundproofing, that is a different ball game altogather. without going into to much technical detail, the panels shown in the control room are to cut down on room refraction and unwanted resonances, so when i am monitoring artists i can hear exactly what has been recorded to enable me to check for any unwanted frequencies or flaws in the recording and not anything the room enviroment has added, hope this helps, best wishes sf

Nice version of Rees's Zuppa Inglese, Lester. Do you have the notaton or the ABC for it?

Right then. Here's my contribution for this month's theme.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzJWOh1Tbm8
I'm indebted to my good friend, and our band's melodeonista, Hugh Taylor, for the two tunes, Needels & Twine and Morgan Rattler. I believe that Hugh spent quite a while looking for a decent tune to go with the widely played Morgan Rattler. He also uncovered both tunes in local(ish) collections - see YouTube vid for the source details. It's done me good to learn them as I aspire to learining enough of the band's tunes on melodeon in case Hugh cuts the end off his finger with a vegetable knife again. I don't want to suggest that it happens often but he did manage it once and had to be depped on bass in the afro-jazz-rock band we both played in at the time.
Morgan Rattler isn't played as cleanly as I'd have liked but like many others before me I'd already had innumerable attempts at getting it right before saying 'sod it, it'll have to do!'.

Thanks, Lester, for the dots for Zuppa Inglese. Much appreciated.

Maybe a smidgeon of thanks are also due to Rees for writing it and sharing it.  >:E

A recording session I was supposed to be engineering this morning at college fell through, so I used my studio time to make some box recordings.

This is Simon Ritchie's "The Valiant". For the tech savy amongst you, I used two CAD M179s in an acoustic booth to record this, and it was mixed using Logic Pro 8.

Here's my offering for this theme:  Two traditional Irish Jigs, Dusty Windowsills and Blarney Pilgrim.  There seem to be so many different versions of these tunes around, with even more varieties of possible chord accompaniments, but these are the ones we settled for in our band, after several weeks of discussion and unlearning previous versions!  Different people's ears obviously fill in the musical space in different ways.

I tried hard to fit the fingering around the chord accompaniment on these.  There's one or two 'gasping' spots where I have to stop short for the air button, because I couldn't figure out how else to do it.

End of the month and time to move onto a new theme. Late entries welcomed as ever of course - just stick 'em here.
In a month or two, we'll continue our 'dance types' theme. with more and different music types.

Regards,

Clive

I still haven't gotten to recording myself, but this clip was on youtube already, might as well mention it here.

It's a tune of my own. Playing it for dancers so it's a bit longer than necesary for listeners-only. hope you like it,
