I have a couple of restored boxes
I love your Hohner Erika(s) (2.4) and Hohner Club (2.7), the brown wood finish three voice. Since I've seen your (and Ollie's) videos, I'd like to have the same models.

Oh, Joe played on one row four stop in C
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ4oq8-9PdU
(that was about take 50...just kept messing it up. And I find the one row quite tiring so my playing had slowed down considerably by this take)

Here's my offering for this tune played in C on the restored early 20thC. GCF Hohner which, incidentally, is still for sale - see Theo's website for details. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1fd3IJf8UI

Haven't posted TOTM for a while (I did actually "learn" most of the tunes) so here's my version.
I'd forgotten how intimidating cameras are - i cut out the middle section cause I fluffed it ::)
This is for Jochen who should be posting soon!

I don't listen to many of the TOTM recording, I don't know why, just one of those things. After reading your comments elsewhere about your disatisfaction with your progress etc. I downloaded your video with a little trepidation ... how wrong!

Your recording could teach many of us "more experienced" players a thing or two about speed, control and actually learning the tune properly.  It's making me rethink my own approach to this tune yet again.

I think you've pretty much nailed the Oscar Woods' version of Oh Joe. There is a simple (even stark) beauty to the tune that I think you caught perfectly.

Thanks to you both. Glad you enjoyed it.
Its not too slow and lackluster then?

Now, here is my first tune for TOTM.

Every month it is a great fun to be part of this melodeon community.

I played this tune on a Hohner Corso in A/D.

I've made the mistake of watching everyone else before I have a go at recording one.  They all really are great!

Feeling quite out-gunned and outclassed really.  For some reason I'm struggling learning this one.  I think some tunes just don't fit my fingers!!

Onwards and upwards!

Feeling guilty that I haven't put much on TOTM over the summer....this is my 'swift' go at 'one row style' on a two row box !
Still not sure exactly how the emphasis should be on the basses for an East Anglian style ? although I did listen to Oscar Woods on Spotify :-)

loved the feel of this tune more than hearing myself play it  :P

Some lovely versions so far everyone - keep them coming!

For what it's worth, here's my version of this tune...

the Oh Joe Bourree!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAhod-Zay_8

(although I suspect it may end up being called the Oh No Bourree  ;D )

Have been wondering how to play this tune for a while, and it was probably going to be a standard version... until I tried tweaking the ABC to Mixolydian mode in my favourite ABC editor (for those interested, I used Gavin's ABC as linked to in the first post of this thread as my starting point). And suddenly, it sounds *completely* different - I can't believe changing one note changes so much, but on this tune it seems to. As soon as I started playing this version, something else happened - it turned naturally into a Centre France style 2 time bourree... and a very good one at that! It reminds me very much of the sort of tune much loved by French bagpipers, and it has quite some drive to it too. So "all" I had to do then was learn it!

Here it's played on a standard 8 bass Hohner Club C/F, declubbed, and most of the action goes on in the first 6 buttons or so of the inside row, with only a small sidestep for a bar or two onto the outside row for a phrase in the A music... so the key comes out as C mixolydian.

Cheers,

Clive
