thanks for that guys! i havent added any ornaments or trebble harmonies yet im gonna work on that with the band i think

lester - being as absent minded as i am i sometimes play it like that!   :||:

i wanted to write a tune for my 3yr old to make him feel special as we have a new arival on the way! - he scribbled on my tune workings! he loves his toy melodeon, we put a gabbanelli sticker and fake gem stones on it!

next tune is gonna be called romany sue for my mum who is currently recovering from surgery .

special trunes mean alot - even if there rubbish!

A tasteful slow air then, possibly in the Hungarian style. Chopin, Etude Tristesse and all that.  >:E

Finlay's Tune - lovely, sounds like a Morris tune. I don't mean it sounds like a particular tune, just that it could be a rollicking good dance tune. Your mum's tune reminds me of...not Music Hall exactly....perhaps old fashioned pub tune is what I'm trying to say.

How great that you are marking the arrival of a new sibling for Finlay by composing his very own tune! Lucky boy. (:)

I agree with tallship. There are various things that could be done to that tune to make it better, but then it wouldn't be your tune! I like it. For a first attempt it's pretty damn good. I'm terrible at writing decent tunes (having written 4 in my life, two of which I've decided were OK).

Basically, only change it if you understand why it needs to be changed and why it is better.

I'll do what I can to transcribe this to ABC. You asked what quavers were - they are eighth notes, 6/8 therefore means you have six of them to the bar. Your first six notes dcd cBA are one bar. Your first bar line comes after 35 eighth notes!  :o

Leave it with me ...  ;)

OK - here's my transcription, based on both Tommy's Youtube playing and on his written notes.
Rather than a 6/8 lumpy jig, Tommy's playing is much more in the quite fast, fluid style of an Irish slide so I have notated it in 12/8 accordingly. It's a great tune and canters along very nicely indeed. I hope your Mum likes it!

Also - I have given two versions: the second one has the A music (which would otherwise be double-length) without the repeat, so that it now balances the same length as the B music, which I suggest is better. Tommy - what do you think?

Already had "quavers" in my "Bringlish" dictionary.

Right after "jammy dodgers" and "oxters".
