Gary, you must hock the car, re-mortgage the family home, and get back to Alsace! How unutterably sad that this was your last great occasion - but how well you've captured the experience; I had the beginnings of a lump in my throat as I read it.

Thank you!  And Andy.

Very kind.  I think it would be more unutterably sad not to have had the experience at all ... and there are a lot of people who get through life without having these kinds of experiences.

I agree I should move the Earth to get back!  But I've had great things happen since ... even in the melodeon realm.  A year after this event Sylvain and Catherine wed, and brought their entire family over to the States to stay with us.  That was some heavy summertime French dance in the backyard here in Maine.  Taking them to Pemaquid point and looking across the sea, where they'd just come from, toward Brittany ... that was something.

I will get back, but my kids have entered the "going to college" phase, and that's where the money is going.

After I posted, Sylvain let me know that Catherine's uncle, Jacques, had taken pictures, and he sent them to me.  Now they're up on the blog.  Thank you, Sylvain!

.......and when you DO eventually return, Gary, I am MORE than happy to...er....I dunno....carry your bags, hold your coat.....whatever! What a splendid place this looks, there should have been a crew, surreptitiously filming away. As you say, a wonderful experience not granted to many. Sigh.

But how great that you were able to return the hospitality and show them something of your own stamping ground. I bet you have made wonderful memories for Sylvain and Catherine, also.
