Just a quickie to anyone who was booked this year:
From their website for this year, I see that all performers are camped on the rugby club ground.....
Can anyone give me some idea of what facilities were like?
Just general stuff.....and how far from the town or main venues?
It's just we're considering things and the last time we were there, twas behind the Abbey!
....and on the first descent of the famous steps we were greeted by a huge black labradour!
( Dracula fans will know )
any info much appreciated
cheers

The rugby club had good facilities as regards showers, toilets and the like.  Many fine concerts in the clubhouse. fifteen minute walk into the centre of town.  Didn't stop me from renting a house though as usual.  Remember, Q, it is far towards the frozen north from where you live.

Thanks Guy.....
Yes I remember last time. In fact, all of us had the same experience and had the same thoughts.
We drove for ~ 5 hours, only to find a sign saying " To the North".
Individually each one of us said something similarly rude!
We'll get innoculations, fur lined kit, put Huskies on standby etc. ..... us living so much closer to the Equator, we must be prepared  ;D
take care

I was on the rugby club ground this year, it was well run, not too far from town, had clean toilets and best of all this year very well drained. I would go back again unless all the events I wanted to attend were at the Middle Earth, it's a long way first thing in the morning especially when the bridge opens just as you get there.

'Get into Yorkshire'.....  ???

No - we have to be psychoanalysed for wanting to leave Devon  ;D

Worst is the full decontamination proceedure and body search on our border control when returning. We have to do this in order to stop everybody coming down here to live, cos it is God's Own County.
Mind you, if you pass the decontamination stuff, you're given a full size pasty and a pint of scrumpy ;D
...... and don't mention whath happens to those that fail  :-[

Now c'mon Lester, please pay attention.....

I live in DEVON.
We make cider, always have done and actually still do. Yes there are others, notably somerset and also Hereford is where my dad did an apprentiship in Bulmers, so they know a little bit about it too, though ours is best, obviously.
Real proper stuff, twill give you a good run for your money too  ::)

Oggies. Staple diet. Made here.
An interesting fact on our local BBC news during the past year, when some competition was going on about who made the best pasty. Someone's dug up the first reference for a pasty, and guess where? Yep in Devon in the 1600's and summat.
Though I live about 50 miles the right side of the Tamar, I'm certain I heard choking sounds from down there  ;D
See.... tis all wunnerful down yer!  ;)

....and as for Tallships..... not sure if I *want* to go that far any way!
....we'll have to negotiate the 'Here be Dragons ' sign, and then gooodness knows what.
Might even drop off the end of the world......!
take care all

I'll have you know it was a darn site colder on the campsite a week later at Towersey than it was on the rugby pitch in Whitby (although it was very windy there).

Q - if needed you would be welcome to spend a few days acclimatizing in Sheffield on the way up. I am sure we could provide some gentle exposure to flattened vowels, flat caps & chip buttys in a controlled environment before you are let loose in Whitby.

Q
A couple of chip butties in the evening and the house speciality combined Yorkshire / Ulster Fry breakfast and you won't be able look at an oggie, let alone eat one! However I suppose they could come in handy as anti-seagull missiles in Whitby.

Hah!  ;D
Ever seen a seagull try and take off after eating the leftovers of one?
Think 'Lancaster bomber with a full payload...'
One way to ground 'em!
