Baz and I do go back a very long way, nearly to the Middle Ages  ;D
Mind you Baz, I do think you need your glasses on.... that hosepipe is an extension lead, cunnnigly parked there for a few days to enable me plug in my radio and listen to Radio 4 whilst painting the front door!
I noticed it too, and somewhat embarrassed at showing the world my untidiness have now put it in the garage.
I'm painting that door now. First coat just done!
Jobs over for today. Now time for a  :|||:

Hi,
now comes my second tune for TOTM, a great pleasure for me. I think this month I am earlier than ziachmusi. But perhaps music from Bavaria has less internet speed. ;D
Nevertheless I love the version from Spiers&Boden. It opened a new world for me. Here in North Germany there are a lot of Irish sessions with a lot of highspeed tunes. When I play these wonderful English tunes everyone is really impressed and surprised.

Sorry,
after reading my mail two days later, I found that my mail can be understood in the wrong way. I didn't mean that I am the "super melodeon player", but I meant that the other musicians are astonished about the different English style, that means slower and more groovy, and these wonderful melodies. My whole family is playing folk music. So we are a small ceilidh band when we are going to Irish sessions.

Nevertheless, I love this music and will be perfect in some years  ;D. (hope so)

Gruß,

Jo

Feeling guilty about not having posted anything to Tune of the Month for several months, I thought I had better have a go.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgAAx3uTteQ

There is nothing special about the playing or the video, although I was shocked and amused to see the range of facial expressions that accompany my attempts to masquerade as a musician. Despite appearances, I was neither constipated nor in pain when I recorded this video.  :|bl  :Ph

For those that might be interested, the instrument is a 2.6 row "Ellis Pariselle" that I made on the course led by Emmanuel Pariselle last July.

Bob, fine playing and I especially like the Pariselle Owners Club  "Where the hell am I on all these bass buttons" finger positioning dance at the start of the video  ;D

Damn, you weren't supposed to notice that!  ::)

I still find it disorientating swapping between my 12-bass Castagnari and the 14-bass Pariselle. At Morris practice last night, I started to play Black Joke, Ascot-under-Wychwood, on my Pariselle with my left-hand fingers in the wrong position and came out with a crashing discord when I hit the G sharp bass instead of the G natural! The dancers thought it was hilarious.  :|bl :|bl :|bl

Oh yes; that wonderful moment where you are convinced you're playing the right note and so blare it out with gusto... and it's not the right note.

Sage advice many years ago from a music teacher: if you play a wrong note, play it Loud... people will think you meant to do it and it's part of your interpretation  ;)

I suppose you could say it was a sort of folk/freeform jazz interpretation.

The Sloe Jig, on my Beltuna Alex 3

http://www.onmvoice.com/play.php?a=70331

Just a quick recording on my camera this time. I, like Clive, didn't think this tune could be bettered by messing around with it, but I've become rather attached to the jig version.

Enjoy.  (:)

if you play a wrong note, play it Loud...

And better still, play it again, confidently!

On the bass positioning issue, I find I put my pinky below button 13 when I start, and then I know where I am.

I'm interested to know what the LH layout is?

I haven't managed to take part in TOTM for a while, but here's my offering for October and The Sloe.

http://soundcloud.com/steve_freereeder/the-sloe

I'm playing it very much in the East Anglian style on my Wesson Clipper one-row four-stop melodeon in C.
It's a rough and ready single-take recording, warts and all, made with a Zoom H2 recorder in 4-channel stereo mode, with just a bit of reverb added in Garageband to give it a little bit of warmth.

Edited to amend URL of sound clip.

Like it - I shall probably take to playing it on a 1-row now!

Newly acquired G/C Hohner Viktoria. Also Fender Jazz bass, Telecaster, Stratocaster, Epiphone Sheraton, Charvel-Jackson 00-style acoustic guitar, Danelectro 12-string and other stuff..........
